A Somali-born student who carried out a car-and-knife attack at Ohio State University might have been inspired by the Islamic State group and a former al-Qaida leader, investigators said Wednesday.
Law enforcement officials said that its too soon to say the rampage that hurt 11 people on Monday was terrorism. They said they arent aware of any direct contact between the Islamic State group and the attacker, Ohio State student Abdul Razak Ali Artan.
We only believe he may have been inspired by the group, said Angela Byers, the top FBI agent overseeing federal investigations in the southern half of Ohio.
Artan also might have been influenced by Anwar al-Awlaki, a U.S.-born cleric who took a leadership role in al-Qaida before being killed in a 2011 U.S. drone strike in Yemen, Byers said.

I thought we were still stumped as to his motive. It’s a real head scratcher all right.
Nothing gets past these guys.
Boy I sure have a lot of Faith in the FBI these days, Maybe they should stick to Murdering Innocent Christians like in WACO.
This is so funny Homeland Security chief just was on NPR saying how there is no evidence that the student was involved with terrorist organizations. Another weasel deftly crocheting around the truth with the meaning of involved
That will all change on January 20.
America’s finest???
DO YA THINK?
Seriously? They think islam might have motivated him and it could even be terrorism?
I just give up, the FBI isn’t just law enforcement, they are like, super cops. God only knows what arcane detail lead them to this conclusion. I am in awe of them. /s
Not ISIS, Islam!
These guys are sharp!
Doesn't this raise questions about how ISIS and its affiliates may be controlling or triggering these remote jihadis?
I mean, are they recruiting guys with fervent "piety" and then weaponizing them with some kind of psychoactive drug or operant conditioning?
Yes, yes, I know that Islam itself is, in essence, weaponized piety, with jihad as one of its defining characteristics. But haven't we seen a number of individual cases where a guy seemed "normal," distinctly UN-motivated to murder his fellow students and so forth, and then "for no reason" flip out?
Drugs? Brain devices? Psy-ops? I'm just raising the question.
The fbi gets today’s “NSS” Award (No Sh** Sherlock). It will be presented later today to comey, the Compromised One, by Captain Obvious.
The guy came to the US in 2014. He was in Pakistan for seven years. He didn’t emigrate, he infiltrated, as I’m sure others have done.
Isn’t this exactly what Trump is talking about? No vetting.
The MSM wants us to try to determine what caused him to “radicalize”. Maybe it was his stay in Pakistan?
The underlying problem is islam.
Sorry; got CIA and FBI mixed up because I can’t tell the difference any more. This one is on Crony Comey.
Islam inspired the Jihadi.
Boy, these FBI fellas are truly amazing! /sarc
Lavoy Finnicum autopsy reveals he was shot 9 times by the FBI & they may have planted a stolen firearm on him according to the serial number on the gun. - InfoWars
