President-elect Donald Trump is down to his final four candidates in what has been a drama-filled search for his secretary of state.
Republican National Committee communications director Sean Spicer told reporters during a Wednesday morning press call that Trump was down to four candidates for the administration post. Spicer said no additional appointments are expected this week.
On Tuesday, Bloomberg reported that the search was down to five candidates: 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Bob Corker, former CIA Director David Petraeus, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and retired Marine Corps Gen. John Kelly. Trump is meeting with Kelly on Wednesday.
It's not clear which of the four is out of the running. Romney, Corker, and Petraeus all met recently with Trump to discuss the post. Giuliani, an early favorite, has seemingly fallen out of favor over the past few weeks.
After a high-profile dinner with Trump last night, Romney told reporters he has "increasing hope" the president-elect can lead the US to a "better future."

I want Rudy in the DOJ... and I don't want Romney anywhere but pooper scooper; and Peterus is nothing in my books...
whoever will CLEAN OUT the Nazis, IslamoNazis, “Arabists,” and other anti-American scum..... I am trusting President Trump to select the most effective person to clean out the SnakeDept AegeanStables PDQ!
it is so embarrassing to our country, and so harmful..even dangerous...to have enemy type personnel infesting our govt and using our govt’s resources and channels to undermine our interests and values
It’s drama only because the media is calling it that.
I do NOT want Romney.
JOHN BOLTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why is he not on any lists?
My guess is Petraeus, though he isn’t my favorite candidate.
Can’t get confirmed because of the insanity situation.
Wrong spot for Rudy. Mitt is marginally tolerable. Corker is a no f’n way.
Trump’s been doing great on appointments so far but this SoS roster is very deflating. I can’t believe that Corker, especially, is being considered for anything but being pilloried on the DC Mall and pelted with rotten tomatoes.
What gives in TN? Is there a good replacement for Corker lined up? Is this a move to shuffle him out of the state to make room for someone better?
I think the main thing is ABR (Anyone but Romney).
He can give some position to Romney, but I don’t like him as Secretary of State.
huh?

>> “Why is he not on any lists?” <<
Oh, he is! - The $hit list, because he favors ending the UN, which would obviously end the global shenanigans.
.
EVERYthing about Trump's promises hinges on correcting wrongs, many of which are people that have committed criminal acts that must be adjudicated in order to correct a wrong
The precedent MUST be set that criminality will not be tolerated and will be judged in a court of Law.
Which needs to be in order for LAW to actually mean anything ever and ever again.
What if Trump makes it a figurehead/administrative position and all policy flows through the National Security Advisor. Nixon did that with Schultz policy flowed through Kissinger.
Kelly is a highly decorated vet, and holds several awards (rifle expert badge and pistol sharpshooter badge).
In thst case, he needs to have a Cabinet position for Graham.
We’ve gone through this a number of times on FR. His track record as a neo-con flack makes him totally unsuitable for a role in the Trump administration. He’s exposed himself as a big-government globalist.
I know it’s not a cabinet position, but Trump already has a First Lady in the White House.
