A South San Francisco police officer, who was critically injured after being smashed in the head with a skateboard on Thanksgiving, is “beginning to show positive signs of recovery,” officials said Monday.

Officer Robby Chon remains in critical condition at San Francisco General Hospital after Thursday’s violent attack, in which he was struck in the head by a suspect he was chasing on foot.

Some question why police shoot people who won’t stop stabbing others.

Anything can become a deadly weapon.

After being whacked on the head like that, I suspect the officer will be retiring and on disability after this. That was a very serious blow to the head. The culprit engaged in an act of overkill, the way a gang member (MS13) would reflexively do by habit. This is the kind of person we are allowing into our ‘Sanctuary Cities’.

Realize this guy will only be charged with attempted murder at best, with other contributing factors, a law enforcement officer involved.

He didn’t kill the officer. This is one more lame guy that some idiot down the road will claim was railroaded, and given too harsh a sentence.

IMO, this guy should NEVER be free again.

Frankly, for this level of injury, they could fry the guy without a moment’s concern from me.

“Sanctuary city”

South San Francisco is not a sanctuary city, not even in the same county as San Francisco. Just a bit south.

I suspect you are right. Hee’s a father with two young children. 12 year vet of the force. Hopefully he improves enough to give them some cheer for Christmas.

“Ramos-Coreas has a lengthy criminal history that includes several violent incidents, South San Francisco Police Chief Jeff Azzopardi said. Ramos-Coreas was on probation for a felony charge in 2011, officials said. “

But he’s still here.

Just a bit south.

Yup, 5 to 10 miles, more or less depending on location from SF. South San Francisco is in San Mateo County, separated by several other towns - Daly City, Colma, Brisbane (and some would include Broadmore which is surrounded by Daly City and Pacifica at the coast) from San Francisco in San Francisco County. The two cities don't even touch on boundaries.

Where the incident happened, is on the main downtown street of Grand Avenue, a block down from the SSF City Hall. Lots of nice restaurants opened lately, just had dinner at a new Vietnamese restaurant there two nights ago. Check out Grand Avenue if you're hungry for new restaurants - Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, Mexican... or old mainstays like Ed's Diner and some Italian restaurants.

Latest accounts is that the police officer is talking with family and friends and thanking people for their support.
