Elian Gonzalez — the Cuban boy who was found floating off the coast of Florida in 1999, sparking an international custody dispute — recalled his friendship with former president Fidel Castro, who died Friday at age 90.
Gonzalez, 22, spoke to Cuban state media in Spanish on Saturday, reflecting on his experiences with Castro. He recalled the leader attending his sixth-grade graduation — when Castro told an audience about their friendship.
"At first, it was an extraordinary honor, but also a heavy load," he said, according to ABC News. "It was years later that I realized that I had a commitment because I was Fidel's public friend. But Fidel was everyone's friend ... F

If I remember correctly there were relatives (an aunt and uncle?) who wanted him to stay with them in the US. The mother died trying to provide him with freedom and a future.

And make no mistake about it: the leftists in these United States would PREFER to own your children, too— just as Papa Fidel did in Cuba. Public schools are the tool being used to indicate indoctrinate kids to their perverted philosophy.
And that leftist indoctrination crap was going on when I was in school in the late ‘70s and ‘80s.

The Clinton’s surrendered Elian to a brutal father and a tyrant dictator. I spoke with a Cuban Dr. soon after Elian was sent back to Cuba. The Dr. had requested asylum in Haiti. He talked about being on duty in Cuba when Elian was brought in with 2 broken legs caused by his tyrannical father. This is not a pleasant picture.
Elian was abandoned by his adoptive country that his mother died trying to bring him to. Her family had been thrilled to be able to raise the young Elian.
Evil was done when the Clintons put their Marxist convictions above the well being of a young boy seeking freedom and terrorized him with an armed military assault before turning him over to another brutal tyrant.
When Bill Clinton and Janet Reno sent him back to Cuba for reprogramming his life was over. Maybe he can be saved, maybe not.
It is interesting Fidel Castro died On the anniversary of Elian Gonzalez’ rescue at sea.

I remember the times well. Janet Reno was an incompetent boob put in place to misdirect any DOJ investigations into their deeds.
Waco was the shining moment. The Clinton’s wanted the military to intervene, but that would have violated the Posse Comitatus Act. Wesley Clark engineered the workaround for that.
Elian had no choice and I am sure he knew that.
Who was Reno’s boss? That is why I blame him more.

Castro was everybody’s friend...unless you were fighting for liberty...
I had so much hope for him. I hope Clinton burns in hell for that single act. Just another despicable act by a despicable person.
