A US serviceman has been killed by an improvised explosive device while fighting against so-called Islamic State (IS) in Syria, officials say.
The soldier, who has not been named, died after the device detonated in Ayn Issa, north of the IS stronghold Raqqa.
It is the first such death since US special forces deployed in Syria in October 2015.

It's time for a guy like Trump.
That must mean congress authorized a declaration of war, right? sarc/ Bring them home.
He was a US Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Senior Chief, he was killed in action as we ate our turkey dinners yesterday disarming an IED in Syria, prayers up for Scott’s family and the EOD Special Operators serving in that no win situation.
Obama killed him. As sure as I am writing this. He might as well have shot him himself. This war in Syria is 50 kinds of illegal.
I second you on that!
But, Hillary Clinton, as Secretary of State, hatched the plot with her big donations from Saudi Arabia.
I understand that, but she could not actually send troops. That’s all on obama. Well, nearly all. It may not have been possible without Clinton’s Saudi cajoling, so perhaps you have a point. I still see obama as culpable in this mans death, as the deployment wouldn’t have happened without his authorization
Taking a side in a civil war is something the United States and other big players like the Soviets/Russians have been doing in a long time,
Meanwhile the Turks are laying artillery barrages on Syrian government troops and the Syrian Air Force is bombing Turkish military units that are operating in Syria without permission.
A few questions are raised by all this;
If a NATO nation invades a sovereign non NATO nation and makes war without NATO approval is NATO required to support that nation?
If a UN reconized nation is invaded by a neighboring nation does it condemn the invading nation?
As Russia is allied with Syria is it obligated to aid and support Syria in driving out the invaders?
These would be questions of Treaty Law and International Law.
Therefore, I would make three points;
1) Laws are for the little people
2) All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others
3) Read my tagline
This might not lead to the that Hussain/Hitlery/Kerry want. But could the RATs refrain from jumping in on the wrong side?
But wait....we have no boots on the ground in Syria
