He’s said “it’s not Presidential...” well, he’s not President, quite yet. Go Trump!

He’s not afraid of failing, I admire that; He puts himself out there and sets bold goals

According to United Steel Workers Union President Chuck Jones, the manufacturing company cited the wage difference as the reason they are moving. In Indianapolis, workers were making $25 per hour, plus benefits. The workers in Mexico will be making $2.50-$3 per hour, plus benefits.

This is the core issue. Trump can't fix this.

The union has to decide if it's more important to keep the jobs, or preserve the unreasonable cost of labor. They can't keep ramping up the cost of labor over and above cost of living, and remain competitive.

There are alternatives: increasing productivity faster than the cost of labor is a net win for both employer and employee. But, that requires compromise on work rules.

Here’s hoping Trump is telegraphing a done deal he just can’t announce yet. Hard for me to believe otherwise.

Move is not scheduled until April, 2017. By then he may have renegotiated trade putting Carrier back in a competitive position, leaving the playing field level or possibly in favor of US production incentivizing competitors to move back.

Labor Union Spokesperson...

Now there’s a voice we can trust.

It never dawns on him he prices his workforce out of existence.

Or does it? Was that the goal all along. We know the Leftist plans for the U.S.

No U.S.

AC is critical here in Florida and I can tell you that the new refrigerant requires much more pressure to operate and is far more prone to leaking ... The components used have to be the highest quality to last any respectable amount of time in use,, I don’t know if Mexican production can do it reliably.

Is Carrier building a new plant, or expanding existing facilities in Mexico? It seems like a “move” would be a hard thing to reverse, halfway into it.

You are correct in that AC requires top notch assembly. Materials will probably be brought in from outside Mexico, but the welding of the piping, etc. for leak-free is not easy. If they move to Mexico, it will take some time for them to achieve their original American standard of quality.

The unfortunate part of this story is that those are Union jobs he is trying to save. It’s probably the onerous Union demands that is driving Carrier to leave in the first place.

“Trump can’t fix this.”

Of course he can. Abandon NAFTA and tariff countries with cheap labor. The solution is actually quite simple. It’s just a matter of political will.

Besides, $25.00/hr for factory workers is still below what it ought to be relative to inflation since the early days of Henry Ford, and if President Trump succeeds in halting and reversing illegal immigration, that rate should go even higher due to ACTUAL market forces. Imagine that, reduce the illegal labor supply and watch market forces at work! What will they think of next?

Will it cost us more to buy stuff? Absolutely, but we’ll also be able to afford it because of higher wages, AND we’ll have full employment, the original vision of Henry Ford: pay people who make stuff enough that they can buy the stuff they make.

Even on US built AC there is quite a lot of room for improvement... I have had units go down because wires were an inch too short and rubbed through their insulation... housings for wire connection blocks allowed small animals to enter (had a lizard fried in a contactor) ... there is almost never any easy way to lubricate the bearings in the condenser fans so they go bad every 5 years instead of lasting the life of the unit... Simply analyzing common failures and making small improvements would put any company at the top of the heap.

Hillary would have said "good riddance" to carrier saying that she got rid of another polluter to save "the environment".

Thank God we have Trump; so much better than the HILLDEBEAST!
