Police assassinations happened in the 1970s as well, and the initial reaction of the police was good. Two man teams, better screening by dispatchers, and not to try too hard to arrest real bad actors if they might violently resist. Instead, just take them out.
"We have an officer who's been shot," Assistant Detroit police Chief Steve Dolunt said. "He was doing the stop of an individual on a bicycle. He was shot once in the head."
Detroit police Chief James Craig said the officer was near the Woodbridge Estates around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday investigating car robberies. Officers had been in the area Monday night for complaints of navigation devices and other items being stolen from cars.
“DETROIT - A person of interest has been taken into custody in connection with the Tuesday shooting of a Wayne State University police officer, police said.
Officials were searching for Deangelo Davis as a person of interest in the case. He was taken into custody around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.”
The officer is out of surgery and listed as critical, but expected to recover.
He didn’t make it...RIP Officer Rose.
