(To celebrate the launch of TIMEs new multimedia project 100 Photographs: The Most Influential Images of All Time we asked leaders in a number of fields, from technology to the arts to business, to share the single photograph that most influenced their lives. Purchase the 100 Photographs book now.)
'The Solvay Conference in 1927 brought together the worlds most prominent scientists and physicists, including Albert Einstein, who you can see front and center here. Seventeen of them were or would become Nobel Prize winners. At first glance this may not be the most moving photo, but to me it subtly communicates two very powerful messages. First, that the pursuit of human progress and advances in science are incredible forces to bring people together. And perhaps even more impactful to me is the presence of the one woman in attendance, Marie Curie. As a woman pioneer in a field clearly so dominated at the time by men, Curie remains the only person in history to ever win a Nobel Prize in two different sciences but perhaps not for long! She paved the way for so many girls who are interested in becoming engineers, scientists and mathematicians, and a similar photo today may look a lot less like Solvay and a lot more like the world around us.'

This photo explains Chelsea’s decision to pursue a career in one of the hard sciences.
It’s too bad too many schools are not teaching math and the sciences. We are having trouble finding American engineers and medical people. Companies are hiring “foreigners” because young Americans are studying, English, Social Science, Weaving, and other studies that do not require the mind to THINK and REMEMBER. The schools are teaching self awareness, gender ???, and other studies that do not help the student expand their minds and curiosities. That’s
why so parents are home schooling or private schools. I have neighborhood high schoolers who do not know American
History. The school here does not have an AG class, and this is a rural area. We have farmers and cowboys. The kids in the town have no idea about planting, horse riding,
bringing in the cattle for processing or selling. The kids
who live on the farm and ranches do, but NOT the kids in the towns.
And honestly, I knew where this was going as soon as I saw the one woman in the photo.
I’m sure you did too.
They’re SO EASY to read, liberals.
She might find it even more impactful to see her picture alongside one of Web Hubell.
That writing style is no way near what is leaked in the Podesta email files.
Exactly.
Time’s starting the ramp-up to the 2018 congressional elections. Chelsea’s rumored to run. I hope US Attorney General Jeff Sessions gets to the bottom of her scamming the Clinton Crime Family “charity” to buy wedding dresses, pay personal assistants, vacations, all the stuff that was in Wikileaks (the emails aren’t going away anytime soon) before she can run.
And when dealing with the Clintons, the Vice chair is the most important chair of all.
Where’s Brian Williams in that photo?
Racist photo!
She forgot to tie it into climate change.
Sounds pretty much the same to me. ‘Impactful’ comes across like ‘disintermediate’ - it’s as if she just picks up a thesaurus and chooses the most ungraceful word possible.
“The Solvay Conference in 1927 brought together the worlds most prominent scientists and physicists,...”
Lol.
The photo is great, her write up is a joke.
“Scientists AND physicists”?
She and Time staffers are idiots.
.
She does have Bill’s nose...
.
Chelsea is a jerk. But I’ve always thought that was a great photograph. Probably her handlers pointed it out to her.
How much of that fraudulent 501(c) cash does she have in those pants that she took from The Clinton Foundation, illegally, for her wedding?
$3 million dollars?
Which one!
