Retired US Marine Corps General James Mattis recently said that America pays a price for its perceived bias in support of Israel.
I paid a military security price every day as the commander of CentCom because the Americans were seen as biased in support of Israel, and that moderates all the moderate Arabs who want to be with us, because they cant come out publicly in support of people who dont show respect for the Arab Palestinians, he said Saturday at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado in response to a question about the peace process
Mattis took over Central Command, whose area of responsibility includes the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia, from David Petraeus in 2010.
He called the current situation in Israel unsustainable and blamed the settlements for harming prospects for peace. The chances for an accord between Israel and the Palestinians, said Mattis, are starting to ebb because the settlements and where theyre at are going to make it impossible to maintain the two state solution.

We do pay a price, in many ways.
The question is not the price, the question is what is the converse of not supporting Israel. What would be the cost of that?
What if Israel didn’t exist, and Palestine was full of musloid arabs instead?
Imagine that? I shudder to think of the possibilities.
The only question is what is best for the security interests of the United States. The last I saw, Israel was not one of the 50 states. Deal with it.
Who the hell wants this knucklehead for SecDef?

I love his leadership and heroism. Very few like him in that regard, but we need someone who can be confirmed, and who does not love John Kerry's two-state solution. Netanyahu doesn't like it.
The cost may be minimal at this point in history but I'm sure the Norks don't like us supporting S. Korea. There is always a cost.
he’ll have to deal with this

If this is what Trump feels is in the best interest of U.S. security, then fine. I expect Israel, like all nations, to advance its own security interests. I expect the United States to do the same.
The only question is what is best for the security interests of the United States.AFAIK, Israel is the only reliable ally we have in an area of the world that's full of people dead set on wiping out Western Civilization.
That's a pretty big security interest. IMO.
If we let Israel disintegrate or be overrun then all the arab allies become kind of irrelevant..
Shouldn’t Trump already know he wanted to throw the Marines under Leavenworth?
Yes, “words matter” and a general would have to support the ‘two-state solution’ since that diplomatic fiction is a fiction supported by the domestic leaders of the US.
Anything else would be considered rebellion as MacArthur found out.
If nominated he’ll be well examined on his attitude towards Israel.
Those “moderate Arabs” matter much less today than in 2013.
Heck, now they’re clearly economic competitors.
I agree.
I am with you and many others. Mattis is not good for U.S. or Israel. I hope he remains retired.
Isn’t it fairly obvious that we should treat well those who treat us well? With that said, the nation of Israel should get $0 in foreign aid, as should any other nation. If they are attacked, we help our friends. If we are attacked, our friends damn well better help us. You cannot purchase friendship and most of our current “friends” hate us but love our money. I would like to think Israel is a friend, we need to find out.
All that foreign aid props up socialist elements in Israel, and they are also for Palestinians. Likud would be able to adapt to a cut.
Yes, exactly. Prune the tree, let the healthy limbs spring forth with abundance.
We have paid a heavier price for backing the nation building of Iraq and Afghanistan.
Certainly mr trump can find another good soldier instead of this guy!
well from the headline it doesn’t seem he’s very pro Israel don’t ya think..but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt maybe he’s changed his views since then
