Thank you for finding that earlier version. I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

It strikes me as chastening.

On another post on on this incident on FR that I read today, one comment said the reason for the boos was that the dad went on an anti-Trump rant.

Can't find the post but the whole story doesn't seem to be out.

The people making those statements about this family are real trash. Someone should have knocked their teeth out.

"“special military family”

This sounds as though the pilot should have been more clear who it was.
This could have been someone attached to Obama and wanted special treatment.

I would call this miscommunication. leave it at that.

According to the article, the family was described as simply a “special military family” with no mention of the details.

In those circumstances, plenty of people would wonder that the hell was going on? Maybe it was the family of an key defense department official, or just someone high up in the military pulling strings.

I think the airline handled it poorly, expecting to get applause for their efforts, but poorly handling the explanation for what they were doing. I also suspect that none of the people who complained would have done so had they been made aware of the actual facts.

Sometimes we’re just too willing to believe the worst of people without regard to considering the circumstances. It gets old, frankly. And yes, those booing and complaining were probably assuming the worst as well. Like I said, it gets old.

I would like to hear someone explain the full context, because I watched the video with the father speaking, and It is pretty apparent to me, from his comments, that the father is lock stock and barrel on board with the people that say Trump has somehow caused this atmosphere that encouraged the people who booed. Stockton went heavily for Hillary Clinton in the past election, has been under the Democrat thumb for a long time, and is known for going bankrupt. IOW, it is a liberal enclave.

Not saying those people on the flight were right or entitled to complain, quite the contrary, I think military families should get some consideration. But if the people were introduced as “a special military family” and that was it, how did the people know they were a Gold Star family?

It smells like Cindy Sheehan.

The following two paragraphs will address 2015 GNP figures: LINK

There are 24 states West of the Mississippi River (WOTMR). California has the top GNP of those 24 states, at 2,448,467 Trillion dollars. It takes four of the next highest GNP (WOTMR) states to beat it. It takes 19 of the lowest states (WOTMR) to beat it. California accounts for 31.6% of the GNP (WOTMR). The next highest state (WOTMR) accounts for 21.1% of the GNP (WOTMR). The next highest state (WOTMR) accounts for 6.0% of the GNP (WOTMR).

California's GNP equals 13.7% of the whole U.S. GNP.

Globally, California has the sixth highest GNP, trailing only the United States, China, Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom. LINK

Passengers on aircraft are leaving places, and returning places. Some of the passengers don't get off in the hub city. Aircraft travel on from Phoenix to Las Vegas. On this flight there were Californians, Arizonans, Nevadans, and likely more states. How were you able to know who booed and hissed, and what state they were from?

California has it's problems. There's no denying it. Those problems were exacerbated by White Flight. California exists in the state it does today, in no small measure because decent people decided to abandon it to the Left. Right this very moment California is 1,746,648 Conservative families shy of bringing the state back to a break even point. Leftists aren't the only folks who can vote with their feet folks. California is a great state, but you couldn't expect it to stay on an even keel with decent folks leaving like they have. If you don't like what California is like today, come back and fight for it with the Conservatives who didn't give up on it. LINK

I will never abandon this state to the Leftists. It's too vital an asset to the nation.

What happens when we cast it off and the citizens of the former state set up alliances with China or Russia? What do we do when China has naval ports where ours used to be? What happens when they amass bases and a troop presence here?

If California leaves, so will other states. As those states leave the U.S. GNP sinks, and it's ability to maintain a world class military will diminish.

What you and other folks don't realize, is that you are doing the bidding of our worst global enemies.

Without firing a single shot, you will have neutered the U.S. for them.

Pretty soon our national map would look like Swiss Cheese and foreign powers would have troops in all the holes that used to be U.S. soil.

Thanks but no thanks.

American Airlines should’ve said that the family was bereaved. But still, people need to realize that this kind of thing isn’t just done for the heck of it, it’s usually a situation where a person needs some extra help. A person needs to think about that before just popping off, “This is crap, who the heck are they?!”

It may have been one or two jerks that didn’t know the situation. I’ve seen this situation quite a few times when I had a job that required me to fly 1-2 times a month. When the captain asked for everybody to stay seated to help somebody that really needed to get off first to catch their connection because they’re bereaved or whatever the reason, I’ve NEVER seen people grumble and start in with the, “This is crap! Who the hell do they think they are?!”

99% of the population has the presence of mind to realize that if they do pop off, they’re probably going to really feel like crap later when they find out they’re putting themselves ahead of a baby or cancer patient or funeral or whatever.

Honestly, this story sound embellished. Maybe one guy was popping off but “several”? I wasn’t there but this isn’t the norm at all.

Yes, I’ve seen this situation a few times (bereavement or just somebody short on time to make a connection) and people have never been bad about it.

One time I did a 7 mile hike in a state park. I got back to the trail head and some guy’s car overheated and his radiator was out of water. It was a busy day at the trail and there were about 30 people around. People were donating their water to fill this guy’s radiator. Another guy that was a mechanic was giving his car a good once-over. Since this was a state park, one guy drove to a visitor center about a mile away and bought bottles of water for people that had donated their water. The news wants you to think that EVERYBODY would’ve walked past, said “sucks to be you”, and FINALLY one person helped out. That’s not how these things work. Quite the opposite. 99% are decent and want to help but it’s the 1% jerks that get all the attention and media.

The news media is always out to “prove” that people are mean, rotten, and horrible, that’s why we need government to run everybody’s life. Otherwise, we’d all tear each other apart. It’s such crap.

There’s a lack of gratitude from spoiled snobs.

And showing respect for our country’s military family is an inconvenience for them.

I’m ashamed of them - they show us America is composed of crybabies and sniveling ingrates.

Then again, not many people appreciate the true spirit of America and those shed their blood for it so they could be bloviatingly stupid jerks.
