California family booed on flight bringing home soldier killed in Afghanistan, dad says
CBS News ^ | November 18, 2016

The father of a slain Northern California soldier said his family was booed on the flight to bring his son’s body home from Afghanistan, CBS Sacramento station KOVR-TV reports.

Sgt. John Perry was killed on Saturday in Afghanistan by a suicide bomber.

His father, Stewart Perry, mourned the loss of his son at a service on Thursday.

“Most importantly, I want people to know about the heroic thing that my son did,” he said.

His son stumbled on the suicide bomber before he could reach his target, a soldiers’ 5K Veterans Day run.

“He would have killed possibly 100, 200, who knows?” Perry said.

Perry said his son’s death comes comes at a time military service is facing disrespect. He said his family was even booed on the flight to bring his son’s body home over a delay.

“To hear the reaction of the flight being delayed because of a Gold Star family and the first class cabin booing, that was really upsetting, and it made us cry some more,” he said.

Perry said his son’s death also underscores why the American flag is sacred for service members, not just a symbol for protest.

“It’s not for protest - it’s for the death of the people that are saving us. That’s what it’s for,” he said.

He also called out recent presidential campaign rhetoric, including President-elect Donald Trump’s remarks about the Khan family.

“One example would be Donald Trump speaking badly about a Gold Star family, who I now am, and it really bothers me, but it also bothers me that people don’t want to talk about the terrorism that killed my kid,” he said.

A soldier’s death defending his country has left a father defending his son.

I already posted about this yesterday; this story conflicts with *everything* I know about how deceased Soldiers are brought home for burial.

We can start with the fact that the family does not travel with the Soldier. He gets a military escort--and the family does not see that process.

Perry said his son’s death comes comes at a time military service is facing disrespect.

That is pure bunk. Even after 8 years of Obama, people go out of their way to thank members of the military. I literally cannot go out in public in uniform without having someone thank me.

I really don't know what this guy's game is. Possibly he's trying to pick up the effort of anti-military Democrats to portray Trump as even more anti-military than they are?

The military does not have family ‘escort their military member home’.
No. More fake news? Very likely....

Exactly. We have an Honor Guard for this exact purpose. ArmyCapt; you SHOULD KNOW THIS

Trump said nothing disparaging about Khan’s family. You had me going up to that point. I guess when See-BS prints a story like this, there must be an ulterior motive. Khan’s parents, Clinton operatives and Sharia supporters, launched a totally inappropriate and absolutely politically motivated attack on Trump, inflated far beyond its significance by a biased media which demonstrated the clearly prejudiced behavior by the press.

I guess the parents of this American hero are too distraught to think clearly. Obviously the crew should have silenced the idiots doing this or better yet, simply put them off the plane.

CBS reporting. Hasn’t this been clarified? A delay was announced along with the reason, and the father started an anti-trump gold star rant. Nobody knew that he was the father of soldier they were waiting on. They booed him thinking he was just some random ass talking that way.

Interesting. Thanks for the clarification. So the Father was anti-Trump? I can see how a flight delay plus an anti-Trump tirade might stir up folks .. especially when they have no idea his son was the one who was slain.

On another thread we pretty much came to the conclusion that these people reacted to the announcement that the flight would be delayed a few minutes, without knowing why.

Second, this father went through his spiel and then trashed Trump for his run-in with the Gold Star parents during the campaign. Those parents went after Trump.

There are shades of Cindy Sheehan here.

I wasn’t the first one to make that observation.

It would be nice if a couple from that flight stepped forward and explained as much.

Flight attendant should have notified the captain and the captain should have ordered the jackasses off the plane.

This doesn’t seem to make sense to me. In reading the article, this father sounds like he has an axe to grind against Trump...and he was booed by some number of people?

For what did he get booed? It sounds like the flight crew announced the flight had been delayed to wait for a Gold Star family, and people began booing “from the first class section”?

I don’t understand this. There is something fishy about this.

That is what it seems like to me. This is strange. Did people boo because the flight was delayed, and this guy assumed they were booing him, his family, and his son?

Actually, it sounds like the flight attendants didn’t tell the other passengers what was happening.

Now folks are saying family does not bring family members home. Was this different? I don’t know. How much of this is fabrication I don’t know.

Not too bright of the father to self-identify with the Kahn family from the RAT convention and their set-up attack on trump.

I must state, that if it was real, that the booing is NOT 1st-degree insult. Such as, booing BECAUSE it was a soldier. More like selfish booing, 2nd- or 3rd-degree upset that they are inconvenienced.

Otherwise, yeah, it doesn’t all jibe.

The only reason CBS did this story was the Trump aspect of it.
