Texas Oilmen Push For Ted Cruz but Immigration Hard-Liners Want Dark-Horse Kris Kobach

A fight is brewing among forces behind the Trump transition over the future of the Justice Department, with separate factions pushing Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach.

A cabal of wealthy Texas oilmen is aggressively promoting Cruz for attorney general, according to a person with direct knowledge of discussions behind the scenes who also said the one-time Trump rival wants the slot.

On Thursday a new wrinkle emerged, with the Trump transition team releasing a statement about a meeting between Trump and Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions. Trump, the statement said, 'has been unbelievably impressed with Senator Sessions and his phenomenal record as Alabama's Attorney General and U.S. Attorney.' Those words suggest he is being considered to run the Justice Department.

A separate group of billionaires is encouraging the president-elect's team to embrace Kobach, citing his hard-line approach to restricting immigration across the board.

Those insiders want Trump to appoint Cruz to the U.S. Supreme Court instead.

As possibly the lone defender of Ted Cruz the Presidential candidate as Trump “Cruzed” to victory I just have to get my $.02 into this development.

Bottom line for me: Put Cruz in the Supreme Court. I believe he would do well as AG but so would Sessions or Rudy (who doesn’t want the job) and maybe this other guy that I never heard of.

But the Supreme Court Justice is forever. And Cruz if nothing else is a hard core Constitutional Conservative. The logical successor to Scalia hands down who would be the most solid defender of rights for decades.

Do it Donald. You are off to a great start. Keep it up. And, just for good measure, make sure you shove your Bannon selection down the throats of the Harry Reids and Nancy Pelosi’s of the world with a little extra force. And a little twist just for effect.

Again, Cruz will take a lesser Secretary position - give him Commerce or Energy - and then the special election puts Ravishing Rick in the interim seat, freezing out Abbott in 2018.

Stick with Kobach. After the way Cruz acted I just can’t trust him, and then the way he was at the convention was disgusting.

Cruz, Romney, the Bushes, the NeverTrumpers. ALL must be persona non grata. And don't even let McCain and Graham inside the White House doors...EVER. NO mercy, NO forgiveness. Bury the traitors and move forward

Considering how the Senate GOP feels about Cruz, personally, I doubt he could get confirmed as Ambassador to Upper Volta.

Except that it would get him out of the senate and out of their hair.

Why do I smell a Bush in the woodpile?

You're smelling something else.

There is no love lost between the Bush camp and Cruz.

Cruz does not have temperament to bo on SCOTUS. That calls for someone who is likeable and persuasive. Ted had no friends in the Senate and would have none of the court.

And Cruz if nothing else is a hard core Constitutional Conservative.
****************

Except when it comes to what natural born citizen means.
From his perspective a child born to a Palestinian father and an American mother in Saudi Arabia is a natural born citizen eligible to be President and once that decision is rendered the natural born citizen clause is gutted for perpetuity.

Gonna have to make Kobach an immigration czar, I suppose. Really think he's the right fit for AG.

Don't get me wrong, Sessions is fine, but his Senate staff is 'leaky' - one too many 'embeds' in many of those Deep Southern staff crews...
