For many Americans, it feels as if the 2016 election split the country in two.
To visualize this, we took the election results and created two new imaginary nations by slicing the country along the sharp divide between Republican and Democratic Americas.

onald J. Trump won most of the land area of the United States. A country consisting of areas he won retains more than 80 percent of the nations counties.
While Trump country is vast, its edges have been eroded by coastal Democrats, and it is riddled with large inland lakes of Clinton voters who were generally concentrated in dense urban areas.

Hillary Clinton overwhelmingly won the cities, like Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City, but Mr. Trump won many of the suburbs, isolating the cities in a sea of Republican voters.
Mrs. Clintons island nation has large atolls and small island chains with liberal cores, like college towns, Native American reservations and areas with black and Hispanic majorities. While the land area is small, the residents here voted for Mrs. Clinton in large enough numbers to make her the winner of the overall popular vote.

Most of the illegal aliens, felons, perverts live in the Clinton areas.
What would the NY Slimes know about America anyway?

What would the NY Slimes know about America anyway?
As of November 16, Clinton won the popular vote by just over 1 million. It will take a while before that statistic is finalized, since they are in the process of removing dead and illegal voters.
We’ve got ‘em surrounded!
The division is between Americans and liberals.
It’s not geography.
Bookmarked.
Amen
The bottom one looks more like a plague that has rotted away the top image.
Not a trace of Hillaryous Rotten Criminal’s drones in untarnished Oklahoma. HOORAY Oklahoma. (I drove through it last week...the only thing that sucked was toll roads). I’d consider moving there to get away from progressive, putrid, pusillanimous, POS, punks...although Michigan did go for Trump.
Maybe if the oceans rose a couple hundred feet it wouldn’t be such a bad thing...
Thanks for posting, NYer. More maps to consider...(I like the county by county - scroll down)
Enough moochers/marxists/criminals/collectivists/socialists/scumbags/idiots/insolents/progressives/punks/tyrants/totalitarians to ruin a republic.
ALERT!
Michigan is a great state to live in if you like seasons, outdoor life and a Republican government. Downsides? An army of gibsmedat parasites in SE Michigan and perpetually high taxes.
Question, why should government employees excepting military, and those receiving $1+ a year in welfare monies, be allowed to vote at all? The system is irrevocably messed up, and most people on this site know why.
The reason I put government employees on there is they are prone to voting for whomever will give them a raise, benefits, or retirement percs. When government employees pay taxes, they can vote. I don’t count paying taxes from the tax money they receive in income, as paying taxes.
Looks like they took the county map and washed it out to make it look less dramatic
I’m surprised the “blue” area is as large as it is.
Still, remember that most of the people in “red” areas...have guns!
When I see the typical red map with spots of blue, I think of a large piece of tainted meat. Something not entirely rotten but you sure don’t want to eat it.
The Fathers of our Nation had the great foresight to anticipate the consolidation of immigrants in large cities and created the Electoral College to give voice to those who work the fields in rural areas.
