As many Democrats cope with their shock and dismay at Donald Trumps victory, former U.S. Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia on Tuesday saluted the president-elect, railed against elitism and accused his party of abandoning white working people.

Yeah the white working class was too busy WORKING to pay for the freebies the lefties were getting and figured out they were working an spectra day a week got their free crap. Of course they lost us.

Time for the Democrats to go the way of the Whig Party.
The first problem the Democrats have is that the Democrats have been hijacked by the Alt-Left consisting of Communists who call themselves Progressives and Communists who call themselves Socialists.
The second problem the Democrats have is a large segment of the electorate know about the first problem.
The problem Jim Webb has is that he cannot seem to find anyone in the Democrat Party who is a moderate Democrat.
But still, I just dont like the guy...
IIRC, his tenure as Secretary of the Navy in '87-'88 was not a happy time. He would bring a lot to the job, but also would bring a lot of baggage as well.
We need someone who is a competent administrator, who can take a hard look at Pentagon practices and figure out how to streamline the acquisition and administrative processes. Acquisition is probably the worst part of the DoD, both in vendor waste/fraud/abuse and the DoD's chronic inability to clearly and concisely lay out requirements without mandating costly changes deep into the process.
I agree. The only dem with his feet firmly on the ground. Navy Cross... no doubt about his street cred. Solid record coming up... probably last of the WW II/Korean era dems, which is why he never got above 2% in the primaries. Can’t have guys like that in the party of Kieth Ellingson. Bet he voted for Trump, but just won’t say.
And he didn’t last long.
I think Democratics are anti-working people period. Color don’t matter.
great pix
Any sane Democrat was like my grandfather.
Realized what was going on and left the party
20, 30 years ago.
He was one of the ones in the early debates who made good points. I was sorry to see him drop out.
Jim Webb is a great American. Read his bio sometime. He won the Navy Cross in Vietnam and was one of the most decorated Marines of the Vietnam war. He’s also IMO an excellent author. My two favorite books of his are “A Country Such as This” about Annapolis and “Fields of Fire” about Vietnam.
Fields of Fire is one of the best fictional accounts of Vietnam I’ve read and incidentally is the book that George Allan attacked him for in that 2006 race. Why? Because the main protagonist was a bad guy and did bad things. I was upset with Allan for taking this typically Democrat attack on Webb.
If the Dems were smart, they would elect Jim Webb to the DNC post, but they are not smart therefore Webb will probably stay out of politics. He had a little too much controversy as Sec of Navy during Reagan’s tenure so I’m not sure if he would be a good choice to be in Trumps cabinet. His main problem is he still thinks of the Democratic party as it was when he grew up. Mr. Webb, there are no more Jack Kennedy’s, Scoop Jacksons or Hubert Humphreys in the party...
I would not be surprised if Trump appoints him Secretary of the Navy.
He talks. But he continues to work with the Democrats, and now he’s on their leadership.
Obama's comments about bitter people clinging to their guns and Hillary's "deplorables" were their way of telling working class whites, "We don't need your vote and we don't want your support."
The Democrats started to give the finger to the white working class in the 60's with their embrace of extreme radicalism, i.e. the party of Harry Truman was transformed into the party of Abbie Hoffman. They decided that they could win elections without the help of the white working and middle classes by becoming the party of blacks, hipster kids on college campuses, the self-styled radical "intelligentsia", etc. They appealed to these constituents by demonizing the white working classes as "bigots" and the cause of everyone else's problems. Then they're shocked and outraged that the people they demonized voted for Nixon, Reagan, or Trump instead of voting for Democrats.
Jim Webb isn't a conservative or even a "moderate." He's just a Harry Truman/JFK Democrat who refused to accept the DNC's memo stating that working and middle class whites are the enemy.
Webb is a type of Democrat who doesn't exist any more: the patriotic liberal who is proud of his country and his heritage, as opposed to the subversive radical who hates his country and is supposed to spit upon his heritage (if he's white).
Whatever their flaws, old-school liberals like Truman, JFK, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, etc. were a completely different creature from Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

I enjoyed his take on the Scots-Irish in America Born Fighting and hope to get around to reading Fields of Fire after hearing good things about it. The attacks the book by Allen for having "pornographic" scenes depicting a child rape seem ridiculous, as if depicting something in a work of fiction is equivalent to approving of it or promoting it. By this logic, any novel depicting a murder must be promoting murder.
Thank you. I’ll have to watch it.
Here is an interesting link for how much money each of the Republican or Democrat candidates received from Military contributors. Clinton, Sanders, and Cruz got the most, Trump and Webb got very little.
