Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Wednesday persuaded GOP lawmakers to postpone a vote on a measure to bring back legislative earmarks.
"Based on the comments by members, it was likely that an earmark amendment would have passed," a GOP source in the room told The Hill. "Ultimately, the speaker stepped in and urged that we not make this decision today.”
"We just had a 'drain the swamp' election," Ryan said in a private meeting of the House Republican conference, according to CNN. "Let's not just turn around and bring back earmarks two weeks later."

Amazing what Trump has wrought before even being officially “elected”....
Trump should tell them he will veto ANYTHING that has an earmark, or is more than one page.
“We’ll sneak it through as part of something else some night in a midnight vote; but we’d better not do it right now,” is how I picture Ryno saying it to them.
Indeed. One brush with political suicide in a year is enough for Mr. Ryan, it seems.

Maybe he is growing a brain.
Either he’s regained some hearing or this was a setup to improve his image.
This was a limited ‘earmark’ proposal- just for Army Corps projects.
Still, best not.
BTW there’ll be NO weakening of the “Vacate the Speaker” motion.
Even Ryan opposes doing that.
For now. But he’s a snake. It’s in his nature to turn left.
Maybe Ryan is wising up.

But Paul Ryan is still for not deporting law breaking illegal immigrants. That flunks him in my book, since I went through the long process of becoming a legal immigrant.
