In the Spring of 2019, Californians will go to the polls in a historic vote to decide by referendum if California should exit the Union, a #Calexit vote.
You will have this historic opportunity because the Yes California Independence Campaign will qualify a citizens initiative for the 2018 ballot that if passed would call for a special election for Californians to vote for or against the independence of California from the United States.
This is a very important question. It is the responsibility of this campaign to explain what a yes vote will mean for you, your family, your community, our state, our country, and our world. We have designed this website to answer many of these questions and look to you to ask more.
Mexico is probably behind this. They have already flooded the state with illegals, so the next logical step is too just declare it part of Mexico.
Please, let this movement succeed.
Shhhh! It’s our secret, don’t tell anybody, but the Phoenix, AZ area has virtually all the benefits of California at half (or less) of the real estate price. :)
“After they Calexit or whatever. Can we invade them?”
That’s what I would advocate for. If they secede, we invade. Conquer the rebels, pacify the area using whatever means are necessary, have a final reckoning with the illegals and set up a Reconstruction Government. California would be a paradise again.
Oh, and one more thing: This secession will happen. It might take 20 more years, but illegal (and massive legal) immigration has created a subculture in California that has less and less to do with the rest of America. If a majority of the population comes to the conclusion that they are financially and culturally better off outside of the U.S., it WILL HAPPEN. This is what uncontrolled immigration leads to.
I am planning my move to a free state, but before I go, I want to vote ‘yes.’
Build That Wall!
Seriously this will end quickly once they find out how much money they would need to pay the federal government for all that federal land they have.
They would have to take it by force and we all know how that would turn out.
So if you decide to divorce your spouse you can’t unless the spouse agrees? Ok.
That’s not how contracts work. Besides, several states (including VA and NY) included clauses in their ratification of the constitution that provided for secession if they deemed the constitutional contract to be broken.
There’s a little issue in their way called Texas v. White. I say take the ports and then let them leave, although going to war with the snowflakes in Berkeley might be fun.
Big downside: No beachfront property, and the annual ritual of Arizonians escaping the summer heat by going to San Diego will require a passport.
Stupidity SHOULD hurt.
California ranks 46th out of 50 states in federal aid received. The federal government receives far more in taxes from Californians than California receives from the federal government.
I sincerely hope they do not believe that they will be able to take the public lands that belong to the 49 remaining states with them.
Can non-Calfornia US residents bus in on election day and vote for it?
After all - there will be plenty of Mexicans allowed to vote.
Then President Trump can just adjust the wall to run along the Mexifornia border with Arizona, Nevada and Oregon
And the resources from the Colorado River.
Also, if the exit occurs, it should not include those CA counties that voted R.
You can not simply walk out on your spouse. You must have the marriage annulled or receive a divorce from a court. California can not walk out on the Union without receiving a divorce from the States.
Secession was an accepted political idea back in the early days. It was even taught about in the textbooks they used at West Point for a while. It was always meant to be a last ditch measure for a state seeking to protect itself from abuses by the federal government or the other states.
As somebody that believes that an amicable divorce would solve A LOT of our seemingly intractable political issues, I say GO FOR IT!!! If the left and right coasts want their people’s republics, they can have ‘em and have all of that they can stand and then some.
Then, when they come sniveling back into a system that has embraced personal liberty in another 20 years, this crap can be settled for a generation or two — perhaps even longer if their socialist utopias collapse as badly as others have...
I consent
The large Marine base of Twentynine Palms is 100 mi NE out in the desert. No strategic territory out there to be defended, so they could move it and other W Coast Army & Marine units southwards to protect the land route between San Diego & Arizona.
The civilian San Diego port would have to be expanded to handle ALL trade between Asia and the US, so as not to risk the whims of a CA govt blackmailing us with port shutdowns. The ports north of there - LA, SF, etc - would see an 80-90% reduction in shipping because they'd only be handling 1 state instead of all of the US-Asia trade, and would likely be the leading edge of the inevitable economic death spiral.
And of course we get to keep all the nukes too, so they'll soon be at Fatty Kim's mercy.
We must be adamant that their border be open long enough for the significant minority of Californians with their heads screwed on straight to have the opportunity to move to the US. After that we'll seal it off. This is vital, because their death spiral will eventually force tens of millions of their desperate, nominally leftist citizens to take the easier path of fleeing rather than rebelling. The entire CA-AZ border is the Colorado River, so that should be easy to defend with minimal investment. The Nevada border consists of two straight lines, most of it in desert wasteland, making defense easier.
Definitely doable.
That is called “self determination.” The Venezuelans are, to some extent, to blame for their plight. I know that they have been put under the violent thumbs of dictators over time and that is what we must resist with violence if necessary. Like the frog in the water, the V's were subjugated bit by bit until it now is too late.
I don't really care about CA. They are in charge of their future. They have Californicated them selves.
