Exit polls show that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender voters overwhelming sided with Hillary Clinton on Nov. 8, with 78 percent of the community voting for the Democratic candidate. As the shock of Donald Trump's election victory sinks in, though, many may wonderjust who are the 14 percent of LGBTQ voters who support the Trump-Pence administration?
NBC OUT spoke with several gay and lesbian Trump supporters who, together, form a surprisingly diverse sampling of Republican voters. They are black, Latino and white. They range in age from just 19 to nearly 40. They live in Mississippi, Florida, California, New Jersey and the Midwest. They all have one thing in common: They believe that Donald Trump is the best choice for president of the United States.
When asked why they voted for Trump and what they hoped his incoming administration would do to benefit the LGBTQ community, many of these voters echoed each other in their hopes for the future. Most also emphasized that they were less concerned with the LGBTQ-related aspects of the Trump platform than they were with general issues like national security, economy, and the right to bear arms....

It’s shocking that (1) at least 14% of gay voters refused to be controlled by identity politics, and (2) 14% of gay voters admitted that they voted based on national interests instead of their personal sex lives. The schools need to work harder on indoctrination.
“Most also emphasized that they were less concerned with the LGBTQ-related aspects of the Trump platform”
Weasel words. The author never writes what the “aspects” are that are supposed to be concerning, she just drops that line in as if it’s just a fact that Trump is up to something sinister and leaves the reader to imagine it.
NBC Out?
Yeah, it’s 2016 and the media caters to blacks, Hispanics and gays.
A former neighbor that is a lesbian thought gay marriage was a terrible thing. Who was I to argue - she carried everywhere she went!
> the media caters to blacks, Hispanics and gays.
While endlessly demonizing white straight men, Christians, home schoolers, stay-at-home mothers, and now Trump voters of all backgrounds. (I must be missing someone from this list)
The media must be handed their hats and shown the door.
I love when Trump dumps the media critters and goes to enjoy a steak without them. I love hearing them howl.
It is going to be so fun watching him troll them for years to come.
I just finished watching the 60 minutes interview and I found it badly edited with just unabashedly leading questions intended to inflict harm rather than inform and completely cold. The Trumps were magnificently patient and Donald evaded her snark masterfully.
The media can KMA.
Drain the swamp !
Yeah, what about the MGBGT’s? Or the BLT’s?
He’ll get many more of their votes next time after he shows he can restart the economy.
My lesbian coworker and her partner both voted for Trump (I think they were leaning Carson early in the primaries). They also both hold CHLs, attend church and are otherwise pretty traditional in their beliefs. I know that my coworker has voted Republican in the years I’ve known her; I’m assuming her partner has, too, because I gather that she is even more traditional than my coworker.
I don’t agree with their lifestyle, but I love them both as people. You just about couldn’t meet two more kind-hearted, helpful folks.
Interesting note from the article: Vincent Foster endorsed Trump.
I’ll bet he did!!
Seems to give an indication of how many are truly soul sick vs. able to sanely deal with their preferences. 78% voted for Hillary so as many as 22% may not be totally insane with self-loathing....
I actually know 3 who voted for Trump, they are not not interested in identity politics. Their concerns are the ones mentioned in the article, they despise obozo and hitlery. One is a vet and all are over 55. 2 are a couple & 1 is single. All are female and live in the south, Florida and Texas.
And none believe in gay marrige.
I personally know of two lesbians who voted for Trump and have lost many friends over it.
The ones who realize a lot of Muslim migrants responsible for the surge in rapes and anti-Semitism in the EU are likely to be a much greater threat if brought to the US than Christians asking not to make your wedding cake.
Orlando might have been a factor
It’s more about thinking priorities. Having a decent job, having a country not headed into perpetual war, etc. are important The Supreme Court has ruled on the other matters already.
“Meet the LGBTQ Voters Who Backed Trump”
Both of them?
