Doanld J. Trump May Hand Sarah Palin The Keys to Nation’s Public Lands, Wildlife

"Drill, baby, drill!”

During her bid for vice president in 2008, that was Sarah Palin's crowd-pleasing chant promoting her energy policy. Now the pithy catchphrase – and the former Alaska governor herself – could make a comeback.

News reports say Palin is on President-elect Donald Trump's short list to head the Interior Department. As secretary of the interior, she'd be in charge of overseeing oil drilling, uranium mining and other energy extraction on 500 million acres of public land, including iconic national parks like the Grand Canyon.

The pro-mining policies Trump and Palin could be expected to bring to Interior would mean EWG and other public land advocates would have to resume a fight we thought the Obama administration settled in 2012.

Under President George W. Bush, the Interior Department tried to open up uranium mines near the south rim of the Canyon. It was a scheme that even The Arizona Republic, once a champion of the so-called “Wise Use” movement, denounced.

If Trump does make moves to open up uranium mining around the Grand Canyon, Palin wouldn't stand in his way, judging from her quip in 2011 about opening the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling: “If a caribou needs to be sacrificed for the sake of energy independence, I say, ‘Mr. Caribou, maybe you need to take one for the team.’”

In a few months, she could be leading the team.

Read her first book. It will change your mind. She is smart and tough as nails. My only criticism of her is when she opens her mouth.

Anyway, she and Trump had pizza together about a year ago. Here's what they discussed:

Good.

And then give those unconstitutionally held federal lands back to the states where they constitutionally belong including the “feel good” land-grabbed tyranny of the National Parks .

Why don’t we try putting the feds under the Constitution? What a great idea.
Federal ownership of lands within a state is limited to the constitutional prescription in Art I, Sec 8, Cl 17.

“Is she qualified?”

What a question. I can’t believe a Freeper uttered it.

If the Dept. of Transportation isn’t eliminated, how about having it run by Gov. Chris Christie?

Aren’t there a bunch of extra-departmental groups hanging about? They need to be folded up and the parts that are actually doing something put under an actual department.

“EPA needs to disappear, along with Education, Energy, and DHS by June of next year.”

I agree 100%, but DHS is the one that has me concerned about an instant dismissal since that could be a political hot topic. If we, God forbid, get hit with a terrorist attack, the libs will HOWL that breaking up DHS is the root cause despite any evidence contrary. That particular department has to be a phased stand down with a crystal clear plan laid out before the public.

The others shouldn’t be too, too difficult ...

I think wiping out EPA, Energy, and Education as we know it wouldn’t take much convincing. There are so many frigging redundancies at the state level that it’s maddening to have an “even bigger big one” at the Fed level. The Fed level should be more of an arbiter and not some massive bureaucracy.

EPA needs to be scaled down and folded into the Dept. of the Interior ... it’s only function at the Federal level should be arbitration between states that have some kind of interstate gripes (i.e. someone dumps crap into the Ohio River and some state along the Misissippi River isn’t happy about it). It should *NOT* be issuing edicts and enforcing “law” ... only arbitration.

Energy could also be folded into the Interior.

A similar strategy can be employed with the Dept. of Education ... each state has its own massive Education infrastructure ... point that out and ask why it’s redundant at the Federal level.

Why not? LOL

I was not fond of Sarah, I do not know why, might be her kids more than her. I KNOW she can handle the subject matter such as the interior, governing, Indian affairs (she is more qualified than most), but she never seemed to handle the press or limelight well.

I fear the pressure would be too much.

LIKE!!!

Can’t wait for lib co-worker’s hubby to be the first in the unemployment line (he works as a tree hugger in an offshoot local arm of the militant EPA)

Payback for all the coal workers/steel workers who lost their jobs due to the whacko EPA!!!

I do support limitations on vehicles ,UTC,ATV, in parks. I had to revoke permission of neighbors who rode their ATVs not just for deer retrieving or firewood hauling but engaged in thrill riding up and down slopes creating erosion “washes” .Use don’t abuse.

I sure hope so. But understand that there will be tremendous pressure from the political elite to continue restricting human activity on federally owned lands. The resources therein are a defacto collateral for the national debt. Interior policy will inevitably be indirectly linked to fiscal policy. Without massive spending cuts and reform of entitlements the long term for Western land management will be uncertain for ranching, logging, mining etc

Energy could also be folded into the Interior.

I can think of only two legitimate DOE activities.

One is the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which should be Dept of Interior.

The other is Nuclear Weapons development which is a Dept of War function.

Let the states manage the public lands. The federal gov’t shouldn’t own any land, except perhaps the land that federal facilities are built upon.
