I’ll bet that Mr. Trump can afford his own vacations as well.

May be picking nits with this, but it's my understanding that Washington intially refused a salary, and only relented out of consideration for his successors who mightn't be as well off as himself.

He finally a accepted a smaller amount than Congress authorized, but I don't recall the amount.

What I’m waiting to see is if Hillary donates her unspent campaign funds to a charity which, by some odd coincidence, would almost surely be the Clinton foundation.

He should donate his entire salary to a fund dedicated to the victims murdered by illegal aliens. Start with a donation to the Kathryn Steinle family. Remind people of the human cost behind the failed Obama open borders policy.

He should make this announcement at the same time he announces his new immigration policy, which includes building the WALL.

Note that Hebert Hoover's fortune is quoted at $4million for 1913, yet he did not take office until 1928, 15 years later. Do you wonder what he was doing in the mean time? This is a man that should have a TOWERING REPUTATION if it were not for the campaign of reputation destruction conducted by his former friend FDR and the rest of the Democrat Party!

An Iowa native, he was orphaned at age 9 and was taken in by an uncle in Oregon 2 year late. While he never graduate high school, he was able to qualify (testing) for Stanford University's 1st class. He earned his way to a geology degree by working multiple jobs on and off campus for 4 years.

Two years after graduation, at age 23, he was working in the gold fields of Western Australia and by age 25 he had married his Stanford girlfriend and moved to a China goldfield near Tianjin and survived the Boxer Rebellion there. Until his 34th birthday, he worked in China, Australia and South Africa, becoming a partner in his employers business and developing new mining techniques. By 1908, age 34, he was a singular independent mining expert with multiple world-wide offices and mining interests and was a known lecturer and author by age 40 in 1914, the start of WW1.

Being in London at the start of the war, he helped 120k US Citizens return from Europe. He then undertook a cross-war effort to feed a food-starved Belgium working with both the Anglo-French and the Germans to do it. In the time prior to the US entry into the war in 1917, he ran the neutral aid organizations, CRB (Commission for Relief in Belgium) and ARA (American Relief Administration) and while running an international funding plea, contributed some of his own money as well.

From the entry of the US into the war and until 1919, Hoover ran the US food rationing and post-war, an international food relief from Belgium to Bolshevik Russia. Named by the NY Times in 1919 as one of "Ten Most Important Living Americans", President Wilson and FDR urged him to run on the 1920 Democrat ticket.

Hoover declined that offer and instead ran for President in 1920 as a Republican, but failed in the California Primary.

By supporting Warren Harding, Hoover was offered the post of Secretary of Commerce in Harding's & Coolidge's administrations. He spent those years in creating government standards, helping international trade, assisting businesses and helping them reduce worker injuries, developing aviation and growing home mortgages for individuals. For many, Hoover was the most successful US Cabinet Secretary in terms of influencing trends and preparing the US for the future.

It is likely that by the time he was elected US President, his personal fortune may have shrunk to $3million, still an absolute fortune but indicative of his personal aims. To put this figure into modern dollars, $4mil 1914 = $94mil 2016 / $3mil = $71mil 2016.

I doubt he'll be taking many. The outgoing cretin has left him too damn much work to do!

Herbert Hoover quotes
1) About the time we think we can make ends meet, somebody moves the ends.
2) Older men declare war. But it is the youth that must fight and die.
3) Blessed are the young, for they shall inherit the national debt.

4) Hoover liked to say that the difference between dictatorship and democracy was simple: dictators organize from the top down, democracies from the bottom up.

Wiki: Hoover briefly considered becoming a Democrat, but he believed that 1920 would be a Republican year. Also, Hoover confessed that he could not run for a party whose only member in his boyhood home had been the town drunk.

No way. The government needs to pay the authorized costs for this gentleman. Just because he is rich should not mean he doesn’t get paid and all the things that come with the job. This sets a bad precedent for people who planned and worked hard and are now well-off.
