Trump has so many problems to resolve that he should address very quickly, I think he should contact all of the major management consulting firms and tell them to draft proposals to evaluate each of them individually. For instance, have 3 of them draft a proposal to evaluate and make recommendations as to how to improve the VA. Have economists and the major tax accounting firms draft proposals on tax policy. Find management consulting firms who are qualified to draft proposals on immigration control and reform. You get the point...stop relying upon political strategists to determine policy (which is fraught with problems and flaws)...use the public sector management consulting industry to examine these problems and propose solutions. I guarantee that he is very much used to doing business in this logical fashion.
I think it would be very interesting for Trump to ask Mitt Romney to step up and fix the VA, with a mandate to get the job done no matter what. It would be a weird combo of reconciliation and punishment (this would be a hard, thankless job, and likely a career ending tar-baby), plus Romney is actually competent at managing large, complex projects. Turning down an opportunity to really do something big for veterans would be difficult. By succeeding, he could show us what he’s made of.
Flame shields up.
Yes but the VA as it stands now only dates to 1930.
What I’m proposing in no way diminishes that promise of care. It does diminish the waste.
Why are you so convinced that government run “bricks and mortar” is necessary to provide veterans care?
“Energy in the Executive.”
Yes. Trump should put an experienced private sector COO with proven success in a difficult turnaround in every department, reporting directly to the secretary. The COO should will be accountable for performance and productivity whereas consultants have no skin in the game. Giver the COO the ability to cut the fat and focus the organization on attainment of real goals consistent with the administration’s vision. Make the government accountable to the president and the people it serves.
Nope.
absolutely not - one of the large problems with the way WDC functions today is the huge number of “consultants” on the payroll when the people hired to do the job should be.
President elect Trump has all the management consultants he needs; they already work for him.
Horseshit!
Usually the simplest solution is the best. So I say disband the VA and give the vets Medicare.
