DONALD Trump's protectionism has already stirred a hornet's nest in Europe with bureaucrats threatening an unprecedented clampdown on the new US president before he's even entered the Oval office.
And the European Commission's tax chief has got the president-elect in his crosshairs after a meeting on Tuesday which began identifying countries which the EU intends to place on a tax blacklist.
In an astonishing interview European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs Pierre Moscovici refused to rule out putting the USA on its blacklist.
And he insulted Mr Trump calling him a populist provocateur before branding the USA a "strange country."
The incredibly bold statement comes as The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership trade negotiations being carried out mostly in secret between the EU and US are likely to hit the buffers.

Ha. Turns out there isn’t a “world community” after-all. Who could have seen that!!!
Please. Through us in that briar patch.
"Populist provocateur" is an insult? Sounds more like an observation to me, would President-Elect Trump be insulted?
"strange country"? Well, the USA is strange country to just about everybody who doesn't live there. That's why they come in droves.
Their delusions of grandeur are a hoot.
Pierre Moscovici (French). Previously he served as a senior French politician, as Minister of Finance from 2012 to 2014 and as Minister for European Affairs between 1997 and 2002.
Previously a member of the Trotskyist group the Revolutionary Communist League, Moscovici joined the French Socialist Party (PS) in 1984 and has since that time been a member of the Departmental Council of Doubs and of the French and European Parliaments. He has been National Secretary of his party since 1995.
Thank you. Wikipedia for outting this communist.
How would you like another Reich in Germany?
You really want them to develop a full sized army again? Two times wasn’t enough to persuade you?
Leave our base where it is and thank God it’s there.
Jefferson only embargoed exports not imports. He needed to do both.
This reminds me of the joke about the mouse having sex with an elephant.
Screw them, who cares ...
If anything, they should blacklist the US over FATCA, which is intrusive and oppressive not only to worldwide financial institutions, but also to American citizens.
[Whats an EU...?]
That place being overrun with 4th world inbred savages.
Good luck Europe.
“We can start slowly pulling bases out of Europe. See how they like that.”
Why be slow? Deploy those assets along our borders, and within the riot zones and ‘sanctuary cities’.
Clean our own house, carry out the trash, and bring our people home from these ungrateful, grifting, military welfare projects.
The EU is busily slitting its own throat.
I say we don’t get in their way :-)
EN 10204 Type 3.1 ........ global cancer
The EU is like a flea floating down river on his back with an erection yelling “raise the bridge, I’m coming through!” When you are in a poker game, you had better take a good look at your hand before betting. The EU doesn’t have any good cards to play!
Wonderful. Europe can keep its BMW, Volvo, VW, Fiat, Mercedes, and Airbus. And products from Bayer, Thyssen Krupp, Godiva, Siemens, etc. 100% embargo on all EU countries except the UK on day one. Make them come crawling back on America’s terms.
“You really want them to develop a full sized army again? Two times wasnt enough to persuade you?”
The way Germany is now, I would love to see them crushed again.
Leveled. Desolate. Smoldering. And their ‘migrants’ with them.
