How did Donald Trump win Michigan?
Mlive ^ | 10 Nov 2016 | Julie Mack

Donald Trump was consistently behind in the polling in Michigan since his nomination in July.

Yet Tuesday, he narrowly edged out Hillary Clinton by a little more than 13,000 votes.

So what happened?

Just as Obama's message of change resonated among Michigan voters in 2008, so Trump's call for change appeared to carry the day in 2016.

"America is going in the wrong direction and if we don't make some changes, we'll cease to exist as the country we have known," said David Lambright, a Lansing resident who went to Grand Rapids for a Trump rally on the eve of the election. "I agree with his stances and the more we get to know him, the more we support him."

Wikipedia had all the states colored and the total they showed yesterday was 306 for Trump but they changed Michigan and New Hampshire back to grey at some point. So they have Trump at 290 for now.

I firmly believe the democraps did all the voter fraud they could and Trump STILL overcame it.

I would not doubt that they did 5% or more of the vote was fraud.

Those two and this: “It used to be that cars were made in Michigan and you couldn’t drink the water in Mexico. Now, cars are made in Mexico, and you can’t drink the water in Flint, Michigan.”

Thirteen thousand is slim in a way, but it's a bridge too far to find that many votes now. They do most of their big cheating early on, or find ballots the last part of the night they stored in a warehouse. They would have pulled that already if it were closer, or if Pennsylvania or Wisconsin were closer.

I did see Michigan called on one of the maps, just can't remember where I saw it. No matter, it's just a matter of time until all of them have it official, heck, Arizona wasn't "officially called" until yesterday and that was no where near close.

I saw some speculation that Hillary’s great “ground game” actually won it for Trump. Her telemarketers badgered people into voting, so they went to the polls and voted for Trump! hee hee

It's a solid win, not a landslide. But I'll take it. We can go for the landslide in 2020 after Donald Trump has had four years to win over the rest of America and shows us what he can do.

I think the Rust Belt strategy was genius. This is where the Democrats were most vulnerable as they had abandoned the working class in that area and took it for granted that the union bosses would keep their rank and file in line.

For months, we've had to endure the concern trolls on Free Republic, telling us that PA, MI and WI were "fool's gold" and that Trump was wasting his money and resources there.

Just last weekend, when Trump cancelled a WI rally at the last minute (in favor of MN), those concern trolls breathlessly told us that this meant that WI was lost and that Trump was foolish to be there in the first place. Turns out that WI was won and Trump was looking to expand the battleground to MN - which he came pretty close to winning as well.

Looks like Trump was right all along to contest the Rust Belt. It is the reason he is President Elect this morning.

While I’ve known it for a long time I still find it astonishing how many people blindly believe what they see on the propaganda channels. The only possible choices are what they’re told, then they repeat to others. The lack of critical thinking skills is dire. I hope this wakes up a lot of people.

Union rank and file.

I believe that you are correct. Funny how Trump is disparaged for positions that used to be what labor unions stood for. If he is against a trade treaty it is because he is a xenophobe. If he is against unlimited immigration it is because he is racist. However, while the union bosses continue to side with the Democrats, the rank and file are realizing that it is not in their best interest.

I refer to the apparent (but mostly untrue) idea of Michigan being a solid Dem state “The tyranny of Wayne county” (Detroit). Outside of Southeastern Michigan the state is rural, agrarian and conservative. Agriculture is still one of Michigan State Universities bigest majors. It was founded as Michigan A & M (agricultural and mechanical). Michigan is a major producer of wheat, corn, soy, sugar beets and tree fruits (apples, cherries, peaches and pears).

People are not giving enough credit Trumps campaign managers. These folks played this incredibly smart, very intelligent people. The Hillary team just “turned the crank”, expecting to use the standard playbook. Trump’s team spent half the money and had an actual strategy from some serious analysis that involved LISTENING to people. This is very telling, he could be one of the best Presidents ever.

Democrats made it so hard for those of us here to display our support openly for him,

I drove through MI in Sept with my Trump bumper sticker. I guess it helps to be from out of state.

Reminds me of the 2006 Civil Rights Initiative referendum in Michigan that banned affirmative action in government contracting and at public universities. October polling showed it failing 44%-41%, but it passed 58%-42%. Likely voters were not honest with the pollsters, because it was presented as anyone would vote in favor must be a racist.
