Donald Trump was consistently behind in the polling in Michigan since his nomination in July.
Yet Tuesday, he narrowly edged out Hillary Clinton by a little more than 13,000 votes.
So what happened?
Just as Obama's message of change resonated among Michigan voters in 2008, so Trump's call for change appeared to carry the day in 2016.
"America is going in the wrong direction and if we don't make some changes, we'll cease to exist as the country we have known," said David Lambright, a Lansing resident who went to Grand Rapids for a Trump rally on the eve of the election. "I agree with his stances and the more we get to know him, the more we support him."

CNN still has NOT called MI for Trump.
When MI’s 16 electoral votes are added to Trump’s total, he will have 306 electoral votes.
306....a SOLID win.!
Easy.
Democrats made it so hard for those of us here to display our support openly for him, that they could never know how many of us did....until it was too late.
Oh well. My MAGA hat will just have that much less ware.
Union rank and file.
That’s how.
Trump almost got MN.
He lost by 1%. He nearly swept the upper rust belt states but two out of three ain’t bad.
If not for massive voter fraud in Detroit and Wayne County Trump would have won Michigan with a landslide.
1) Because I voted, my wife voted and my typically democrat extended family voted for Trump.
2) The polls were weaponized to suppress the vote.
3) Liberals are arrogant group thinkers.
4) America is waking to the DNC infomercial that is the MSM
5) Trump was a champion for causes Michigan residence cared about
6) There were not enough blind union votes to pull it off
Mlive.....
[sigh]....you live there, and you HAVE TO ASK???
“It’s been 50 years, what have Democrats done for you? What do you have to lose?”
“Thanks to NAFTA your jobs are being done in Mexico”
Those two messages won him Michigan.
and i recall also that President Trump let the lovely and talented Sarah “go rogue” in Michigan during the last week of the campaign. looks like he made another great call.
Yee haw.
The concern about America not being able to exist any more on the path it went on, is a valid one. It can withstand sporadic troubles, but a convulsion from inside it cannot. And now the rats are all flushed out.
This transformation in the Rust Belt could end up being one of the most significant trends in American politics in the coming decades.
Michael Moore foresaw it, and he inadvertently helped win MI for Trump - when his own words were used against him. The first part of his pro-Hillary movie speech was very eloquent on why voters WOULD vote Trump. It was clipped and went viral on social media. It made such sense that it probably made an impact on the results.
None of the online electoral maps have Michigan as going for either candidate yet.
He won Michigan with possibly the greatest campaign line of all time....”It used to be that we made cars in Michigan and you couldn’t drink the water in Mexico, now they make cars in Mexico and you can’t drink the water in Michigan.”
I think Detroit is one place where, “what have you got to lose” really resonated with the black vote.
I’ve searched for final heat map to post but can’t find one. If anyone has one with MI red, please post it here.
Thank Michael Moore. He made a great case for Trump and a lame one against him.
