The democrats haven’t represented the working class since LBJ was in office; they decided way back then to represent the PARASITE CLASS, which they created.

We’ll be seeing a lot of this, people like Reich having to finally recognize 2016 reality, instead of living life like it’s always 1973. The American government has been run by old hippies for a long time (remember, as an effort at “unity” after the Gore fiasco, GW didn’t remove them). They continued to screw this country in the Obama Administration. They are now, finally, officially, old and in the way.

Good read. Second article I have seen making similar points. The other was regarding the TPP.

No, it’s not. Not when investment banks (and i’ve worked at many) are laundering drug money, faking millions of accounts, playing fast and easy with the numbers and on and on.

Good jobs working for them though. Lots of benefits.

DemoncRats didn’t abandon the Working Class, they deserted the Non-Union Working Class.

That’s why Trumka visited Obama’s White House about a million times.

> Democrats once represented the working class.

Must have been before I was born because I have no memory of this. They’ve definitely supported the NON-working class, but working class? No.

Who would have thunk it? Reich is RIGHT ON.

Possibly, Paul Ryan has had a come to Jesus moment, but on the other side of the aisle, Pelosi and her Marxist clan of BLM types don’t get Robert’s outline.

The power structure understandably fears that Trump’s isolationism will stymie economic growth. But most Americans couldn’t care less about growth because for years th.ey have received few of its benefits, while suffering most of its burdens in the forms of lost jobs and lower wages.

I agree with the above. He misses when he wanders into liberal 50 year old BS excuses. This was NOT a left wing revolt... far from it... to couch it in those terms is a disservice to the revolution.

At the start of the 2016 election cycle, this power structure proclaimed Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush shoo-ins for the nominations of the Democratic and Republican parties.

This nation is sick and tired of Clintons and Bushes.

Today, the Dems represents the ‘Gibmedat’ class, the ‘rich class’ and the ‘AntiAmerican’ class...

But yet, Reich is correct. Look at where the Hillary Clinton campaign got most of its money from: Wall Street firms, the most influential tech companies and the Hollywood Left. They don't represent the one percent, they represent the 0.01%!

What has happened in America should not be seen as a victory for hatefulness over decency. It is more accurately understood as a repudiation of the American power structure

Good God, Robert Reich got it right! Look at the county by county vote map for a visual confirmation that he's right (for a change).

Expect to see a lot more introspective articles like this from Democrats. The smarter ones realize what just happened.

So long as the Republican Party exists the Trump Revolution is incomplete. The brand is fatally poisoned and needs to be replaced with all its connections to the present lobbyist/politician cabal.

The thing to note is that this article came out AFTER Hillary lost. The Dems do burn their own, but at least they’re given support when it counts.

Hopefully Trump will FULLY PURGE the Republican leadership...their behavior CANNOT be allowed to stand.

Mo, the Democrats never represented the working class. They just made the working class, including me, think that they represented the working class. Democrats have only represented themselves and Wall Street bankers, that support and subsidize them and their personal power.

Hillary Clinton narrowly won the popular vote

I'm tired of hearing this. A.) It doesn't mean squat and B.) Trump only lost the popular vote because of California's massive population of Democrats that awarded Hillary Clinton a whopping 5.5 million votes to his 3 million.
