Now Trump supporters, who are still celebrating his historic win last night that saw him secure 279 votes in the electoral college, say the WikiLeaks activist should be pardoned for helping to bring home the victory.
Hundreds of social media users have gone online to demand Mr Trump takes action immediately to pardon the activist, who remains holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London.
James Thomas said: “Julian Assange is a hero. Trump should pardon and make him Press Secretary.”
Patrick Savalle said: “Mr. Trump, now show some real balls and pardon Edward Snowden, Chelsea Manning and most of all your chief campaigner Julian Assange.”
Twitter user Chrysostomos said: “Has Trump been in touch with Julian Assange about a possible pardon? I think many would be happy to lobby him for one.”
Duke Rivers tweeted: “Mr. President-Elect Trump: may I make a suggestion? Pardon Assange. The value of his work is clear by now.”
I would indicate to Mr. Assange, publicly if necessary, that the United States does not intend to pursue prosecution for acts committed that did not directly jeopardize national security. Sure, he helped with the election. But if he has endangered the lives of U.S. operatives, well....
Maybe we could give him a sweet plea bargain.
As to Manning, no pardon, no excuse. The retread can rot.
And Snowden can live comfortably on Putin’s dime. As part of the rapproachment with Putin, the deal should be we give him Soros, and he lets his best hockey players stay in the NHL. It’s a fair deal.
Criminal espionage investigations are supervised by the FISA court. These are not made public. I would be shocked if there were not one against Assange.
(Except of course for Hillary’s violations of the espionage law, which are conducted corruptly by political allies within the Justice Department.)
Now we see why the MSM was so slow to post Trump’s true electoral college numbers. The partial tally is being presented as the true vote to conceal the extent of his victory and diminish his mandate.
I agree, Manning should rot. Snowden will need to do at least some time in a minimum security facility. Assange would not have to do time, but his organization would need to respect our legitimate security needs. The far left position that there is no such thing as a national security secret isn’t going to fly.
And we keep the Russian hockey players. That’s the important part. :)
I'm pretty sure that while Assange may hate being holed up in an embassy or airport, he doesn't want to move to the US.
The reason: he's going to keep on publicizing secrets and doing things that could get him indicted here, pardon or no pardon.
The second should be to pardon and issue reparations to the dude blamed for the Benghazi video.
Not being an American citizen or in any way connected to the US, Trump can only pressure for his release (which he can do but there is no indication that wouldn’t make his situation worse). Snowden and Manning are entirely different situations.

Trump could offer Assange some sort of honor or medal.
If the rape case against Assange was some intelligence agency set-up then Assange should also be offered citizenship here.
Then at least we would be assured of having _one_ investigative reporter in the country!

Regardless of the many issues mentioned in other posts (not a citizen, not charged in the U.S., etc.), this would be a bad precedent. If it was an illegal act, then this is “ends justify the means” thinking, and that’s one of the many hallmarks of the leftists that we abhor.

Prez. Trump could possibly sway Sweden into dropping “rape” charges. I suspect those charges were fraudulent anyway, and supposedly the statute of limitations has run, and were in force to jail Assange in Sweden first, then turn him over to the U.S. Prez. Trump could certainly pardon him for the U.S. charges (I think that U.S. charge was for when Chelsea Manning released documents to wiki leaks which they pubished.) It would cut no mustard with Assange continuing to expose the U.S. and any other country when he discovered wrongdoing, but would at least end his long sojourn in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London and maybe let him reunite with his wife and children in Australia.
I like your statement that Snowden and Assange seek reasonable plea agreements with the U.S. With perhaps a minimum term in confinement, and Snoweden to never be permitted to hold a security clearance hereafter. I appreciate what Assange has done for America, and would prefer he gets an “out of jail pass” here in the states and can get repatriated to Australia,

As to Sweden, I heard Julian say the other day that there was some sort of interview coming up with respect to the Swedish legal process and that he and his lawyers were confident that he would be exonerated on the merits.
The bigger question, beyond the fate of Assange and Snowden as individuals, is how to deal with the massive Surveillance State constructed by the Neocons and the Left.
The Neocon/Left policy of Bush/Clinton/Obama has been dubbed “Invade the World/Invite the World.”
But there is a third element that naturally follows on: “Invade the World/Invite the World/Surveil the USA”.
When our Ruling Class insists on large scale Islamic immigration and borders wide open to international narco cartels and terrorist organizations, the Surveillance State is a logical corollary.
But if we stop Invading the World and Inviting the World, maybe we can ease up on the massive Surveillance State.
I can remember when the Left when lunatic over the federal government steps to monitor communist organizations in the 1960s and 1970s. But that was nothing compared to the intrusive surveillance the US government does today on all Americans in our everday telephone and Internet and transportation usage.
