Justice Ginsburg Wears 'Dissent' Collar Following Contentious Election
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg appeared to be wearing her dissent "jabot" on Wednesday one day after an incredibly divisive and contentious presidential campaign ended in the election of Donald Trump.
Ginsburg wore the embellished collar ruffle meant to show disagreement and stray from the majority opinion on decisions before the high court. But there were no court decisions slated to go out on Wednesday.
The Supreme Court did not return a request from NBC News for comment. Ginsburg has previously been frank on what she thinks of Trump.
"I can't imagine what this place would be I can't imagine what the country would be with Donald Trump as our president
For the country, it could be four years. For the court, it could be I don't even want to contemplate that," she told the New York Times in July.
She had surgery in 1999 for colorectal cancer. Treated for pancreatic cancer 2011. And two years ago had heart surgery. Stent implanted in heart. She’s a tough old bird. But at 83 and a history of so serious illnesses?
Dissent collar? Against what - the will of the people? Our system of laws that enabled citizens to ACTUALLY SELECT DONALD TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT?!
That’s right Granny, Trump was lawfully elected. As a Supreme Court Justice, would seem fitting to not show your POLITICAL BIAS and just do your job interpreting law.
Ginsburg has a problem with democracy and the rule of law, I see. No surprise there.
I’m still giggling about the whole concept of a “protest ruffle”.
I believe she can be impeached for her political comments that are in violation of the SC ethic rules.
Unless Trump completely botches it, you’re looking at a likely Trump-Pence era in the WH that could last at least 3 terms.
If Justice Bader outlasts that, she deserves some sort of gold-plated trophy.
She should invest in a “dissent paper bag”.
Can’t be long, she’s looked dead for a few years already.
