Absolutely it is the best system. Otherwise, NY, FL, CA, IL, and PA could choose the president, while the rest of the country would have to pay the bills.

Well the electoral college is the popular vote of each state. Trump won the popular vote in 30 out of 50 states.
They want NYC and Cali to pick the president every four years while the middle class red states and counties foot the bill via high taxes for their social programs?!

Amending the Constitution requires a 2/3 vote on a joint resolution in both houses of Congress. Republicans hold majorities in both houses.
The next step is to have the amendment ratified by 38 of 50 state legislatures. Republicans control 31, democrats control 11, and there are 8 split legislatures.
Democrats can't succeed in amending the constitution for the foreseeable future.
Hillary highjacked the election by having 60,000 felons pardoned and made eleigble to vote thereby winning VA by less then 10,000 votes.

It is the system, period, of the United States - the President of the United States is just that - the President of the UNITED STATES - and is elected by those STATES. That’s our system of government - individual entities that joined together to form this union. There is nothing official about a “national popular vote” - they are just tabulating together the results of completely separate elections that are not related to each other. These are individual separate local elections put in place by the individual state legislatures - they each individually decided to grant their citizens the right to choose the Electors of their individual states.

It also makes a lot more states relevant and important.
