Washington (CNN)An emphatically upbeat President Barack Obama promised Wednesday to work toward a "smooth transition" of power to the man he's spent the last year denigrating, insisting that despite his differences with President-elect Donald Trump he would uphold the central tenet of American democracy.
Speaking in the Rose Garden as some of his aides sobbed, Obama made a deliberate effort to counter Democrats' crushing sense of doom at the prospect of four years of President Trump. "It is no secret that the President-elect and I have some pretty significant differences," Obama said with Vice President Joe Biden at his side. "We are now all rooting for his success in uniting and leading the country."

When Harry Reid exercised the nuclear option to eliminate filibustering judicial nominations, his main goal was to pack the DC Court of Appeals with liberals, since that court has jurisdiction over a lot of regulatory cases.
I’m hoping McConnell won’t be shy in repaying the favor!

Most satisfying words of the day.

HA!! Nice.
Well yeah they are, but denial is one of the steps on the way to acceptance and peace.
I think it’s going to dawn on our dear lefties (a lot of them) that they’ve been boxing with a will-o-the-wisp, a ginned-up strawman menace that was the size of a mouse.
+1
He comes out of academic or university politics, where you can simply dismiss people who disagree with you as misguided or insecure or stupid or ignorant or bigoted or mentally unbalanced, so you don't have to take their opinions into accounts. That fed a sense of superiority and a belief that compromise or conciliation was unnecessary and even wrong.
Obama, like most people, was better when he wasn't so sure of himself, when he was in uncertain circumstances and couldn't simply dismiss or discount people who disagreed with him. The problem is that those conditions didn't last very long.
He was lost at Columbia, but came into his own at Harvard Law. Success there may have gone to his head. The new adjunct lecturer at U Chicago may have been approachable and personable, but he picked up a lot of faculty room arrogance. Obama may have been tolerable as a young legislator in Springfield, but when talk about running for the Senate and then for the presidency started it definitely went to his head.
So Barack Obama has always been on that curve from initial confusion, to success, to arrogance and possible downfall. Now that he's had a setback he may be more tolerable than he was on the upswing or at the pinnacle of power.
Concur thought it was a very good low key speech saying exactly what needed to be said. I especially liked the reference to the ease of transition with Bush and is expectation of the same for Trump....as opposed to missing Ws when the Clintons left.
Lol!
I don’t know what the Hell ya said there. So. Amen Brother.
Go Trump
Obama is a liar.
Trying to say that Donald really had their best interests at heart as Americans after all. They were fighting little things as if they were everything.
Yeah, right, nobama. Don’t moozlums lie to advance their cause.
Obama has been a puppet of liars all his life.
Donald won’t bullshit him. He might not agree with everything Donald believes, but I think he knows Donald is sincere.
“Trust but verify.” On second thought, just verify.
This was talking about other protesters.
Though in the case of Barack, it seems from his life story that he’s always been the puppet of liars.
Donald might criticize Barack up one side and down the other, but won’t ever bullshit Barack. This is as close to free as Barack has ever been.
Obama knows that Trump is a threat. That’s all that Obama knows or cares about.
Yea. I saw a Man grow before me over the last 16 months.
His concern for All Amercians comes across to me as genuine.
What does the Good Book say about “you shall know the truth, and the truth will make you free”?
You give too much credit to Obama.
Sometimes you would want a “threat” if it’s to something you would rather be rid of. That’s why we would take an antibiotic, because it is a threat to germs.
No credit at all needs to go to Obama — that’s the beautiful part.
It all goes to the good Lord who finally engineered a salutary position to put the meritless Obama into.
