Got pics?..................
great, great story....GO TRUMP!!!
I move that the standard admonition against vanities be waived in this instance...
If we need to protest on 11/10 then it would be well-advised to have people in place to provide covering fire for you just in case the Clinton mob sends in their armed thugs after you.
I was in Austin demonstrating. Had a CHEATIES box. Many great FReepers there, sadly many have since passed away. Jeff Head and his dog were there.
Reuters Photog took my pic, and it was on the front of many European Papers. We were all younger then.
CNN wanted an interview. They were very rude to people in the vicinity of the public sidewalk, so I told them to shove it, I wasn’t doing an interview with people who treated people so rudely.
It was my first time FReeping..
I remember that election. Something to do with “hanging chads.” When the winner was finally proclaimed, a bunch of us where hanging on the beach in Boca Raton. There was a big commotion. I asked what was going on and was told somebody named Terry McAuliffe, a friend of Al Gore, was on the beach and people were heckling him, and throwing eggs at him. He had a sign taped to his back that read, “Jeb is my Daddy.” I thought he might suffer permanent brain damage from the eggs that were hitting him in the head. Don’t know what happened to him. Maybe he went out West and became a cowboy. Mousy looking individual.
The networks called Florida early for Gore. Think of that. The closest state, in the closest election in the history of close elections, and they call it before the polls had even CLOSED in parts of the state (the panhandle of FLA is in a different time zone than that of the, eh, phallus).
Well everyone knew what THAT meant. For Bush to win, he HAD to win Florida. There was a lot of grousing, a lot of depression. The thing was, even though they called it for Gore, Bush was up in all of the reported vote totals. A couple of FReepers pointed out that the numbers reported do not support calling the state for Gore. At first it was just a lone voice or two (and forgive me for not giving credit to those who were banging the drum for Bush). The state is too close, the numbers still favor Bush.
But the predominant vibe was 'hang it up dude, we are going down in flames". But then, little by little, other posters realized that there WAS something to the idea that the state was far to close to call. Then the trickle became a torrent. I remember calling my mother (who doesn't go on line) and told her that there was a good chance that they were going pull Florida off the board for Gore. She, skeptically said 'that's nice'. You see, she was plugged into the networks.
Then the networks pulled their call for Florida. Bedlam. The rest of the states fell in line for Bush. Bush NEVER fell behind Gore in the vote totals. It went into the night, and then on for another month. But it was a night I will never forget.
We drove from Ohio down to have Thanksgiving with friends in Albany, Georgia. The next day we drove with them to Tallahassee and joined in the protests at the Supreme Court. At that time we had 10 kids and 4 adults in our big van, quite a fun time.
I remember the time well.
One of Free Republic’s finest hours!
Thank God for FR!
Seems like a lifetime ago.
We were probably standing next to each other. I went to palm beach too. Was there when kathleen stopped the recount at 5pm. sharpton was there too.
November 2000 was the most fun I’ve ever had with an election. :-)
That story gave me goose bumps. You should write a letter to the Bushes and the Never Trumpers and shame them into fighting for Trump as hard as you fought for liberty.
I joined in 2000 too. Never forget how much I was rooting for “W”. After seeing the Bush true colors, I am sorry I ever supported any of them.
I demonstrated on Bristol St. by South Coast Plaza, in Costa Mesa California

GET OUT OF CHENEY’S HOUSE!!!
