By the age of 16, Muhamad As-saddique Abdul-Rahman was already a felon. Thirty-seven years later, he is ready to be called something else -- a voter.
When Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced his plan in April to restore voting rights to more than 200,000 felons, Abdul-Rahman, who spent nearly two decades behind bars for armed robbery before struggling with drug and alcohol abuse, immediately logged online to check on his voting status. He discovered that, for the first time in his life, he was eligible to vote.
"I was not whole when I came out of prison, both politically and emotionally," says Abdul-Rahman, 53. "But having my right to vote back has made me feel whole as a human being."

So inspiring.
Truly living the American Dream.
Trump doesn’t need Virginia, but McCauliffe won’t survive a Trump Administration.
ALL of these degenerate WASHINGTONIAN CROOKS are going to be destroyed.
And by the way, this will be the LAST election that voter fraud will be permitted to happen.
NATIONAL VOTER ID CARD WILL BE REQUIRED TO VOTE,AND IT WILL HAVE A CHIP, 2 PARTY VERIFICATION.
NO MOTOR VOTER, COME DOWN TO THE REGISTRARS OFFICE AND PROVE YOU ARE ELIGIBLE TO VOTE.
NO CARD NO VOTE.
ICE WILL HAVE AN AGENT AT EVERY OFFICE READY TO DEPORT ANY ILLEGAL WHO SHOWS UP.
ONCE THE FRANCHISE IS LIMITED TO ELIGIBLE CITIZENS, THEN ITS TIME TO REVERSE THE DEMOGRAPHIC CHANGES PERPETRATED BY THE COMMUNIST DEMOCRATS.
ENEMEDIA IS GOING TO GET WHAT THEY DESERVE TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Either they’ve paid their debt to society or they haven’t.
What was his name before he went into prison?
Probation can go on for a long time after people get out of prison, so there is a question when they have actually paid their debt to society.
IMHO, only after all probation.. all debts paid.
It’s incumbent on judges and juries to determine the proper debt; but, if paid, it’s paid.
IMHO, again.
Now he can vote he can buy a Glock and start over!
I'm sure he came up with that statement all by himself too.....probably took them 30 hours to get him to remember his lines.
I understand your point, and I can’t definitively say you are wrong. While you consider the Constitutional rights of the person in question, I contemplate the following.
1. This person has demonstrated not just a little anti-societal incompatibility, they have gone past mere ticket, fines, and misdemeanors. They were out of control and unable to make sound decisions. Has all that stopped when their sentence is served?
2. People and issues that show up on the ballot have to do with what type of society we are going to have going forward. So do we want very flawed people voting for presidents, governors, mayors, judges, and other important issues?
3. Any issue that serves to benefit someone who has chosen a life of crime, is certain to attract a person who may not have learned his lesson. The question is, how do you tell which one that is? A judge known to be soft on criminals is on the ballot. Do we want this person voting against us to keep that judge?
4. Do we want sex offenders who have served their time voting on whether it’s a good idea or not to make it a law that people on the sex registry must stay 1000 feet from schools? You probably know that crime has a very high rate of recidivism.
This was enough to let you know where I was headed in my thinking. I think there are other examples that would contribute to my line of reasoning.
I do recognize the value of your argument. I see more of a competing interest here for society.
As with all penalties for crime, those penalties are public record. If people don’t care about those penalties and go ahead and commit felonies, is it my fault they have to live with the penalties?
Voting has always been one of those penalties. They didn’t care. Why should I after they signed away those rights?
Citation required there Bogie. hehe, BUT,The Bill of Rights specifically STATES that FELONS should not be able vote, The Constitution also states that Felons should lose the right to vote, The Magna Carta and The Federalist Papers along with the Anti Federalist Papers specifically states that Felons should lose the right to vote, The British Bill of Rights adamantly proclaims that Felons should lose the right to vote. All the great Philosophers believed that Felons should lose the right to vote. The French Revolution brought about the LAW that no Felons should be able to vote. All the great Conservatives of the 20th Century ALSO agree with YOU. All the great Scientists in the 18th Century believed the same, believed that Felons should lose the right to vote. The people in the First Colony believed that FELONS should lose the Right to Vote...Even Jesus and all the age of the Greeks stated that Felons should lose the right to vote. HEHHEH As I said CITATION REQUIRED!
Non Sequitur, Criminals do not go to Gun Shows to get Weapons, Sheesh..
Man, when you get going, you’re good!
All good points; I can see it both ways.
“Course what I really wish is that I got to determine who was allowed to vote.
:)
Course what I really wish is that I got to determine who was allowed to vote.
Sadly, the Democrats join us in that. LOL
