Sounds like the book THE JUNGLE by Upton Sinclair in which a man is hit with all that is wrong in American society UNTIL he comes upon some people who call him “Comrade”.
Instead of overthrowing the Government and replacing it with a socialist-communist one, all the book did bring in changes to the pure food laws.

While not required reading, I read it on my own while other boys were reading about teens and hot rods.
I don’t understand it but in my teen years (1959-1966) I preferred more adult oriented books than teen novels. I even managed to get the librarian at the Carlsbad NM schools to issue me an adult card. I was 14 at the time.
In those years, reading was the only thing that kept me sane.

The only remedy that seems to be the most viable, but most ugly, since We The People, do not have the power to re-enact the Anti-Communist laws of the 1950’s, is to “put them to the blade”.

Our kids are deprived, they don’t know schools got more than two sexes...I guess we got to tell our kids that you can be a banana peel if you want to be that gender... :-)
