Donald Trump Voters, Just Hear Me Out
New York Times ^ | NOV. 2, 2016 | Thomas L. Friedman

Posted on 11/02/2016 6:16:41 AM PDT by artichokegrower

This is my last column until after the election, so I’d like to address the people least likely to read it: Donald Trump voters. Who knows? Maybe I’ll get lucky and a few of them will buy fish wrapped in this column, and they’ll accidentally peruse it! Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Yes, it’s just virtue signally.

The article is no different than thousands (probably tens of thousands) of other articles just like it where the self-identified elite tell each other how smart they are and how stupid and/or ignorant everyone else is.

Verbal masturbation.

I want to know and I want it thoroughly documented.
Every word of it.

It’s important and it will be even more important later.

Yeah, this guy is so delusional that he can't recognize the depth of these supposed flaws that he seems to dismiss so casually.

He says she has a "weakness for secrecy", as if she's sort of a private person. But that's not the case. That secrecy is her cover for corruption. She uses the power of the government for personal favors and benefit. That is not privacy, it's obstruction of justice. That's not secrecy, it's deliberate deception.

And while I don't think I would do or say some of the things that Trump would, his integrity regrading the desire to help the American people is stellar. He may be occasionally crass, but he has never been corrupt. And that is the reason Trump has attracted so many followers. We know that personality quirks do not hurt America, but government corruption does.

The establishment and elite are so accustomed to this corruption, that they can't even recognize it, or it's ill effects.

I’m not the one to decide on dumping that trash. I can only say my piece about it and say “dump it”. I’ve said it and you’ve said what all the other concerners out there have said and we’re done with it and let’s move on.

My battle is done. I went out and voted Trump this morning and what I have to say doesn’t matter anymore. I’ll just not read crap like this thread again.

This seems to be a common theme lately. Sort of like right wing Christian fundamentals. Any comments about less-educated black males?

The media never tire of telling us about how Trump's core of support is among "uneducated white males." We never hear about how uneducated blacks and hispanics of both sexes are flocking to Hillary Clinton. In other words, lack of education isn't a problem as long as you're non-white and vote for Democrats.

Yes let’s talk about those less educated blacks. Those uneducated who vote for Hillary and other democrats. NYT where racism comes first and profits last.

Condescending from the first word on. I only wish this was his "last column" EVER, not just before the election.

He thinks we are stupid. The elites like him and Hillary are smart so they should be the ones telling everyone else what to do. Given the brainwashing of American universities, maybe the ones who DO NOT go to college but learn practical skills are the lucky ones.

His comment that she "fudges" the truth is priceless.

Just let her loose with the SCOTUS and we will be totally lost. What a creep he is!

First of all I won't click and link to the NYT.
Second of all I will not read dribble from a self proclaimed elitist.
If the writer is not smart enough to call Hillary a criminal in the first sentence and then identify Bill as a rapist, they are ignorant. Think to move on.

Thomas Friedman has long been the most arrogant and self-righteous NYT op-ed writer. He struts around pretending to be some insightful, moralizing sage when all he does in fact is to recycle the latest trendy politically correct talking points.

For example, when Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth was all the rage, Friedman couldn't stop lecturing us about the evils of our carbon footprint. When refugees from the latest civil war are the trending topic, he lectures us about how cowardly and immoral Americans in "flyover country" are for not "doing more to help" (i.e. sending more money, troops, or both). Now he lectures us about how only ignorant (white male) rubes could possibly oppose Hillary Clinton's coronation.

If there's a trendy buzzword or crusading cause circulating among the pseudo-intelligentsia of New York, you can always count on Blowhard Tom Friedman to be out there repeating it.

If I recall, Trump said on that tape that the women LET him...So now consent is sexual assault?

IIRC, Trump said women WOULD let you if you were rich and powerful, not that he ever did so.

I’m an admirer of Mr. Trump. I get a little tired of freepers who do this virtue-signaling stuff such as “While I feel Trump is a bombastic, vulgar pig who loathes women, he’s still a better choice than Hillary Clinton...” Then why bother voting for him?

---------------------------------

Because for all the flaws I perceive in him, I will crawl over contaminated broken glass to cast a vote to keep Hillary Clinton away from the levers of power.

I think Trump is, at worst, a bombastic jerk. But I think he is sincere in his desire to shake up the establishment, and the treatment he has received since the convention should have increased that desire.

Mrs. Clinton is a threat to our liberties. She will use government to punish those who oppose her. She will go after freedom of speech and the press, imposing campus like "speech codes" to drive places like Free Republic out of business, muffle commentators like Rush Limbaugh, and drive magazines like National Review (a valuable resource, if totally wrong about Trump) out of print.

Trump gets the big things right and the small things wrong. Clinton gets everything wrong and would punish those who dare say so.

Because most people are willing to vote for a less than perfect candidate as long as he is right on the big picture issues, and as long as the alternative is so terrible that those flaws can be ignored.

Trump has said and done some things that rub me the wrong way - for example, I couldn't believe that he jumped aboard the idiotic "vaccines cause autism" bandwagon. However such flaws can be overlooked because he was the only candidate talking about how to keep out illegal immigrants and deport the ones we have while the others were debating the best way to open the borders and grant existing illegals amnesty most efficiently.

It's not "virtue signalling" to acknowledge that your candidate of choice has flaws, it's being honest and facing facts. The bottom line is if you wait for a candidate who you unconditionally admire, unless you go through life wearing blinders you'll be waiting a long time.

As to the anti-Trumpers who pretend to oppose Trump because his views don't fit lily-white pure movement conservative ideology, where was their righteous indignation over the liberalism of Bush, McCain, or Romney? If the NeverTrumpers could ignore their lack of ideological purity, then it's pretty clear that their opposition to Trump isn't about ideology, it's about the fact that he's not part of the establishment. Shaking up that establishment is yet another reason to support Trump, warts and all.

Why do Free Traitors™ constantly bring up automation when talking about offshoring? Automation cause job loses but the factory is still in the USA and still employs Americans. With offshoring we lose the whole factory lock stock and barrel. Why do supposed intelligent people do this? Because Free Traitors™ are disingenuous pricks that's why.

Offshoring and Automation are different animals altogether.

Not true. The NYT can be used for making off large areas prior to painting and starting fires.
