Big Government: A new survey finds that more than a third of federal workers are threatening to quit their jobs should Donald Trump prevail in the presidential election. If only that were true.
A survey of federal employees by the Government Business Council and GovExec.com found that 14% said they would "definitely" consider quitting their jobs if Trump wins the election on Nov. 8, another 13% said they might consider it. Just 65% said they'd stay on at their jobs no matter who wins.
Whatever Trump's many flaws, that's an awfully tempting reason to cast a ballot for him...
...federal workers are paid far more than their private sector counterparts...
...impossible to fire a federal worker, no matter what the reason, as various government audits have shown.
One Government Accountability Office report, for example, found that 99.5% of federal workers got a "fully successful" rating or above. More than a third got a rating of "outstanding." Even if they do horrible things...
...the government spent more than $3 billion in just two years for what amounted to paid vacations. It found that hundreds of federal workers had gotten a year or more of paid leave.
Two employees implicated in the Veterans Health Administration scandal which involved bureaucratic attempts to hide chronic, and at times deadly, delays...
...got new jobs at the VA.
So don't believe that any of these workers will actually quit in disgust should Trump win. Most will no doubt swallow their pride and go back to doing what they've been doing, which is next to nothing.
That isn't to say that a President Trump couldn't force these employees to live up to their promise by cutting the federal workforce by 35%, while demanding that the rest actually do their jobs.

...federal workers are paid far more than their private sector counterparts...
How many times have we heard Rush say he wouldn't run for president because he didn't want the pay cut.
Big Government... ...cutting the federal workforce by 35%,
The idea that the federal workforce is bloated is bogus; today's fed payrolls are about half what they were when Reagan was president. Come on guys, do we really want 35% fewer personnel in uniform? We really want to lay off 35% of the border patrol?
Not going to happen.
Government workers almost universally value their takings more than anything else.
Fat chance, ever try to pull pigs from a trough.
More BS from the likes of those leaving the country too.
Nor are they going to quit if Trump wins.
Thirty five per cent of government workers are conservatives and just as disgusted by the crap as people here.
35 percent quitting? I’d call that a good start.
7 of nation’s 10 richest counties are next to DC. Lots of six figure salaries for doing not much.
I work alongside Fed civilians. They are good people BUT - there are too many of them. It’s like a self-licking ice cream cone.
There are plenty of government workers who do no work; they can easily be cut. How much of your mail is junk mail? How many teachers today have an “aide” in the classroom (unheard of for most 30 years ago)?
What company hasn’t become more efficient in the 30 years since Reagan was president due to technology? Twenty bookkeepers can be replaced with one using today’s technology.
The muslim ones?
What a steaming pile of horse shit. These people aren’t going anywhere until their pension is secure. They can piss and moan all they want, but until they have their 20, they’re stuck.
I don’t think the border patrol will be demoralized if Trump wins. Department of (Mis)Education, EPA, and a bunch of other worthless rent-seekers, maybe. But they will keep there lips firmly locked on their government teat sinecures until they are dragged out, or ease into comfortable retirement.
I agree with you on this. The thought of 35% fewer government workers is a blessing.
..threatening to quit their jobs...
Don’t threaten. Just do it now.
” . . . today’s fed payrolls are about half what they were when Reagan was president . . .”
In the context of this article, that statement is only meaningful if we know if you’re including military personnel as those on “the fed payrolls”. Are you?
The problem isn’t with the military payroll - those folks are underpaid as it is. The problem is with the money spent on the unelected bureaucrats who try to run our lives.
What. A. Laugh! I’ll be surprised if even one affirmative action Union slob quits.
None of them will quit; if the border patrol agents currently forbidden from doing their jobs are still on the payroll, they will never quit. Same goes for military personnel sent to various destination to lose wars; they are 0-2 with Iraq and Afghanistan but still drawing pay.
That’s a good place to start.
We can only hope. In reality, they will likely be escorted out of their offices kicking and screaming when the swamp is drained.
Not good news if by quitting they mean retire. We’ll still be paying for their nice, fat pensions.
Quit and do what, exactly? They’re about qualified to be roadsweepers and/or barristas.
Suuuure - that 35% is the sort that makes the others look bad. No way they’ll jump off the train. Had to fire a couple of them and it was a task and a half to get it done - takes 9-15 months.
