Pollsters Scramble as Fewer People Take Their Phone Calls
MSN/WSJ ^

Posted on 10/27/2016 2:45:54 PM PDT by TigerClaws

Each day, millions of calls are placed to phone numbers that have been disconnected or are no longer in service. Everyone misdials—men and women, rich and poor, blacks and whites.

Scott Richards wants to replace the familiar “Your call cannot be completed as dialed” message with a different one: “Would you like to take a survey?”

His is among a spate of ideas bubbling up for new ways to sample public opinion. The alternatives are coming because the traditional method—randomly calling phone numbers again and again until someone answers—has grown far more labor intensive and costly in recent years.

Yeah... well.. when they call me at work in the control room of coal-burning power plant and identify themselves as Clinton fundraisers, they shouldn't be very surprised if they hear a *click*... Just sayin'....

I posted my comments re the vanishing line connected phones and the problem for pollsters back in August. I was chided by probably those employed by polling companies and probably Clinton trolls. Below is my post, maybe more relevant now than last August.

Many of the so called pollsters have been Democrat Operatives for decades going back to when they predicted Carter would beat Reagan.

Pollsters today are like the buggy whip makers in the early 1900’s, facing economic devastation because they can’t poll many people. They are in a losing battle with social media and cell phones.

Now, they are trying to compete with cell phones, social media and the problem of less landline phones.

More and more people on both ends of the age spectrum do not have landline phones. They only have cell phones.

Does anyone with a cell phone ever answer any unknown numbers and specifically any 800 #’s?
Probably not.

We use no more robocalls on our two land lines. Zero pollsters have gotten through since we started using no more robocalls, 2 plus years ago.

None of our voting age relatives have received a call from any pollster this election. That is 20+ Trump voters.

Then, there is this on social media versus polls:
Social Media Patterns Show Trump Is Looking at a Landslide Victory

Current polls show the race for President is much tighter than it really is. Ann Coulter warned us years ago in her bestseller Slander that Democrats and the liberal media always use polls to manipulate and discourage conservatives from voting. Thanks to social media there is more and more evidence that the polls are way off and if things stay as they are, Trump will win in a landslide!

It’s evident that, Hillary has a hard time filling a Union Hall or high school gym while Trump regularly turns people away from his stadium and arena venues.

A final question have you or any Trump voters, you know, actually been polled this year?

Yes!!!!

So, any Freeper ‘oh no’ pessimists...you know if you fall into this category...buck up!

I was right on the hanging up stuff...I have likely hung up on 30 pollsters this election...so the pollster just makes stuff up.

We are up 10 pts nationally.Faith.

Caller ID should be expanded to display the SSN, home address and license plate of the caller. Let’s see how many of these lowlifes work the call centers then.

Suddenly we have Trump going to NH, ME and IA. Crooked Hillary is going to MI, WI and PA.

This schedule tells the tale. Trump is surging and the embattled Crooked Hillary campaign is in full panic mode.

me thinks you correct

“If I don’t know who is calling, I do not answer.”

And you can go to someone like Whitepages.com, put in the number and see if it's a spam call. Most of them are so then you just set up a “contact ( I have them listed as “Assholes”) and then I block it. Sure am glad I bought my iPhone with the maximum available memory installed. We're going to dump our land line because it's expensive to screen incoming calls. AT&T exacts monthly fees for caller ID and they don't have a decent system for blocking them for the future. And they are the pr!cks who sell the telemarketers their DID lines which are then used to harass us all.

To be fair they are usually third parties eg Public Opinion Inc. or some other anodyne term.

It’s a grubby little business with dodgy results.

Phone-wise, the best thing I ever did was buy a call blocker device.

Junk callers used to drive me crazy, now they are gone.

My home phone caller number pops up on my TV. The only bother is that I have to delete about ten calls each evening.

DELETE/DELETE wipes them all!

One nice thing about cellular is Caller ID.

Landlines have Caller ID too. I work at home, and have a landline for business and a mobile phone for personal stuff.

My landline phone displays caller ID, but so does my cable TV, which I keep on with no sound all day just for the landline Caller ID function.
