GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -- The Mesa County Elections Office said they received reports a canvasser for the Democratic party was offering to pick up ballots and turn them in for voters.
The elections office said that while this is legal, it is a really bad idea voters should never give their ballot to a stranger. Elections officials recommended that voters turn their ballots in themselves or have a trusted loved one do it.
Local Democratic officials confirmed they do help voters turn ballots in. Local Republicans, however, said they drive people to the ballot drop-off locations, but never physically take someones ballot.
Tune in tonight to KJCT News 8 as reporter Makenzie OKeefe will have the full story.
"it is a really bad idea"
(Note: Title copied verbatim, including typo.)
I voted paper ballot in my county office.
Marked ballot with old-fashioned ballpoint pen and dropped completed ballot in seal envelope in ballot box.
My CO vote’s been recorded.

Aren’t they sweet?
I would guess [hope] Trump voters are smart enough to not give their ballots to these scumbags...
Guess which ballots are “lost”
Possibly some elderly would, especially when the canvasser doesn’t tell them they are a ‘rat. Probably pass themselves off as republicans.
I says on my Colorado ballot that it is illegal for any one person to turn in more then 10 ballots.
Yeah if the ballots are makes Dem they turn the in if Rep they go in the trash, right?
So they turn in 9. Duh!
This is what is known as “vote harvesting” and is a really bad idea.
In Arizona, we passed a law to make it a little harder, limiting the number of ballots one person could turn in to 10. It was ruled a violation of the Voters Rights Act to impose such a limit.
They can't see the ballot in its sealed envelope; but the name and address of the voter are printed on the outside of the envelope and the parties have voter registration lists; so they would be able to guess how the voter voted with high accuracy.
I think they may have done this in Virginia too.

Yeah and fill them out.
Yep.
Better yet, pose as a Democrat and offer to take the ballot then go to the nearest landfill...
If they wish to fill them out, they will also need to successfully forge the voters' signatures. Ballot envelopes with signatures that don't match that of the voter get turned over the District Attorney.
Right. Dems would still do it even if the signature didn’t match. I would expect they would ask the ballot holders to sign the envelope before turning over the ballot.
BTW, I dropped off my CO vote about 3 hours ago in the county clerk drop box. Another vote for Trump. :)
