The Pentagon is seeking to recover decade-old reenlistment bonuses paid to thousands of California Army National Guard soldiers to go fight in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Los Angeles Times (link) reported that nearly 10,000 soldiers, many of whom completed multiple combat tours, have been ordered to repay the cash bonuses after audits revealed widespread overpayments by California Guard officials.
The soldiers say the military is reneging on old agreements and imposing severe financial hardship on those whose only mistake was to accept the bonuses, which amounted to $15,000 or more.

It’s a mistaken overpayment. Isn’t there a statute of limitations? They’re going back over 10 years.
California National Guard. Jerry Brown seeks revenge against one of the few Republican groups left here...
Wow
CA needs the money to give Obamacare to their illegals, so fork it over, soldiers. Absolutely shameful.
What is outrageous was the illegal use of taxpayer money. At least one of the Guardsmen went to prison over the wrongdoing.
And everyone should know by now - don’t trust anything that the recruiter tells you.
This is one instance where I wish the plaintiffs could get triple damages for the very idea of this. Just produce your $5,000 letter and get $15,000 instantly.
They need someone like Donald Trump to fund the legal services(Class action lawsuit) to sue the pentagon over this mater.
I know, I’ve seen several posts about this but it is so outrageous I don’t even know how to respond.
we’re supposed conservatives....we would want this corrected if they were civilians or govt workers....
uncollectable
while Billions of dollars of tax refunds end up in pockets of Illegals
Should be a class action lawsuit.
Corrected? How about firing those responsible?
These guys were induced to re-up and risk their lives by payments they received. They didn't know the payments were higher than authorized and buried in some law. They are blameless. If the payments were lower, maybe they wouldn't have been persuaded. As far as they are concerned, they were offered a deal and they honored it.
Class actions only make the lawyers rich....JMHO
They are or were “gov’t workers”...And underpaid for the job they do at that...
I don’t want this “corrected...I wish they could get more....
(This from a Vietnam veteran)
I’ll bet the government wouldn’t be so damned eager to correct the error if they had UNDERPAID them earlier.
.
Horrible. It is truly horrible. If she steals it.....horrible would be better than what she will do to us.
