SEATTLE (AP) A toddler who died in a house fire was found with his dog and teddy bear next to him and authorities believe the dog tried to protect the boy, a spokesman for Spokanes fire department said Saturday.
The dog, a terrier mixed breed, also died in the fire that broke out at about 11:30 p.m. Friday, said the spokesman, Brian Schaeffer.

The parent were too cheap to replace the battery in the smoke detector. Now they have a dead child and Loyal dog.

The child is an innocent. The dog is too. I can’t imagine God forsaking either of them when the day comes.

"The battery in the houses smoke detector had been removed and it was not working, Schaeffer said." In other words, this was a preventable tragedy. A fire is possible in any house. However, if you wake up in time to get out (or be led out, if you are a child or infirm) before the smoke becomes dense enough to overcome you, you have at least a fighting chance to survive.

The parent were too cheap to replace the battery in the smoke detector. Now they have a dead child and Loyal dog. The battery had been deliberately removed. The thing was probably going off all the time and driving them crazy, it's a common problem. Secondly, you don't know it had any application to this situation. Third, why not assume they loved their child and are grieving, instead of spitting at them. Everyone's a hard ass around here until they need prayers. Give it a break.
