Politico Co-Founder: Trump Could Lose Texas, Race Not ‘Remotely Close’
Legal Insurrection ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 10/18/2016 5:39:39 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Remember Wendy Davis? She was the Texas Democrat who became an MSM darling for her filibuster against a state law restricting abortions. Davis exploited her 15-minutes of fame by running for Governor of Texas in 2014. But despite the backing of an adoring press, Davis got demolished, losing by more than 20 points to Greg Abbott. For the record, my home county of Hood showed its scorn by awarding Davis all of . . . 18.9% of the vote.

So when on today’s Morning Joe, Politico co-founder Jim VandeHei claimed that Hillary Clinton is so far ahead that she has a better shot at winning Texas than Trump has of winning the presidency, this adopted Texan had to laugh.

Numbers are important, but it’s the get out the vote endgame. The ‘ground game’ and infrastructure that will make the difference.

It doesn’t matter how many illegals they have set up with how many fake ID’s, nor does it matter how many patriots we have to love the republic and want to see it saved...

It matters how many people show up at the polls or mail in that ballot.

Ground game, GOTV, that is what matters, not what the MSM says, not what Freepers say, not what conservative pundits pontificate about... the machinery and organization to get potential voters to vote.

It wasn't a poll, but a tweet that showed the image of a poll. I later looked at IPSOS and never found the poll taken.

That is the problem these days. If anyone actually has a link to that poll where Trump is 20+ in Texas I'd love to see it.

Politico Co-Founder: Trump Could Lose Texas, Race Not ‘Remotely Close’

I don’t know how to interpret that statement; it seems contradictory. Those English speaking folks, can you help me out? What the Heckle and Jeckyl does that mean?

There is nothing new about liberal media bias. In the 1950s, CBS's Edward R. Murrow went against Senator Joseph McCarthy and his anti-Communist activities. Even earlier, in the 1930s, the New York Times promoted Stalin as a modernizing leader even as millions starved to death in rural areas or worked to death in the gulags. Over a period of decades, family-owned and often conservative local newspapers, like the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times, were either bought out by East Coast-based syndicates like Gannett or inherited by liberal offspring. We see this happening even now at Fox News, where the semi-conservative, though purely establishment, Rupert Murdoch has handed control of his media empire to his liberal sons. Within a year, Hannity, Lou Dobbs, etc., will either be retired or working at OANN (unless they too are bought out).

The 2016 elections have eliminated all pretense of objectivity that the MSM claimed. No more Cronkite saying at the end of his show, "That's the way it is." Without exception, they are as partisan and ideological as Limbaugh, Levin, and Savage. The Democrat Party, the Executive Branch of the Federal government, and the MSM are an iron triangle.

If Hillary wins through psywar and voter fraud, it may be a Pyrrhic victory. Nature abhors vacuums, and the powers that be lack the men and guns to go full Stalin on this country (though they would if they could). I think there are enough "workarounds" that would thwart any attempt to stop the web. The Chinese can work around government censorship, so can we. Reinstating the "Fairness Doctrine" may only eliminate radio talkers like Limbaugh, whose effectiveness has shrunk as his audience ages or is radicalized.

First, there will likely be a recession in the next couple of years. The new President, whether Trump or Hillary, will be blamed for it. With a new cycle of economic problems, it would stretch credulity to blame a recession on the second Bush administration that left office a decade ago. Not even Hollywood airheads will buy that lie. Second, the Trump campaign has devastated the RINO and old line conservative wings of the GOP. Radical types like Alex Jones, Breitbart, and Savage are on the ascendancy. Glenn Beck, Fox News, National Review, and Salem Communications are in free fall. I wouldn't be surprised if Rush Limbaugh, Michael Medved, and others opt for retirement. In other words, like Poland in the 1980s, uncontrolled opposition has replaced controlled opposition. The 2020 election may make the MSM and the DC-NYC power corridor long for Trump's relative moderation.

I disagree. If Mrs. Bill Clinton, rape enabler, is elected any down turn will be blamed on "the Trump effect". That will be something along the lines of Trump, and his supporters, having made things SO toxic that they tanked the economy as a way of sabotaging the greatness that is her Thighness. Or...wait there is no or; that's the only arrow they'll have in their quiver. The media and the GOPe will go full tilt in an effort to blame Trump and his supporters for any negative thing that happens for the next 4 years; nothing else will even be put forth as a reason for the economy tanking, or country imploding.

I’m in the Houston area and here there is an idiot that keeps getting elected (Sheila Jackson-Lee). With that said, I have not seen any Hillary signs anywhere. I’ve only seen two Hillary stickers on cars.
But I see Trump signs everywhere! Many businesses are putting Trump signs up as well.

It was reasonable to blame the second Bush administration for the fallout around the derivatives and residential real estate collapses of 2007-08, as they failed to foresee the crisis or act effectively before proposing the bailout. Assuming there is a recession caused by the cascading effects of, say, the collapse of Deutsche Bank, a Russian-NATO war, or a sovereign debt default on the part of the PIIG nations in the European Union, not even low information voters would buy a blame game on a failed Presidential candidate, whether Hillary or Trump. Hoover owned the 1929 stock market collapse; Carter owned the inflationary recession of the late 1970s. If there is a recession in 2017-18, whoever is President, Trump or Hillary, will own it.

If it’s Trump he will be blamed and have to fight back.

If it’s Hillary, she will be rewarded with a landslide victory in 2020.

I remember the media talking up Carter, like you do.

But they kept ignoring the hostages that Carter had left to rot in Iran for over a year. Along with the pitiful state of the economy and the gasoline shortages. And our own President telling us to wear sweaters instead of heating our homes comfortably.

The regular working man and woman didn’t ignore it. They lived it every day, and had gotten sick of it. Sick of domestic policy failures and foreign policy failures (like SALT II and Camp David Accords... we didn’t feel safer after all that jabber-jawing).

The entire Carter administration was a failure. And the average person knew it, felt it, and didn’t need constant propaganda to remind him or her.

So out Carter went, in disgrace, as he should have.

Hillary winning Texas is a long shot, a very long shot.

However, the frowning Hispanic population and the massive influx of Californians and people from the east coast into Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin is a bit worrisome.

Silly Freeper, there you go using logic:

a) you underestimate the media’s, the left’s and the GOPe’s ability to go full-retard on this
b) you overestimate the power of the a large segment of the population to think for themselves.

Oh, whoever is president will own what ever happens. I just think that if Mrs. Bill Clinton, rape enabler, is elected, you will see tons of knot tying taking place in order to try and place the blame on Trump and his supporters for whatever happens.

No President, not Hoover, not Carter, not the elder Bush, survived a recession or depression. The Communists in the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact satellites did not survive the economic collapse in the 1980s despite having a real police state with concentration camps and torture chambers and 100% dominance of the media. There is no reason to believe that Hillary Clinton, with fewer tools available than Gorbachev or Ceausescu had, would survive in similar circumstances.

The grip of the MSM is weakening. Polls consistently show that large majorities regard the news media as untrustworthy. In other words, the American people view them like the Russians of the 1980s did Pravda and Izvestia.

Hillary herself has to perform a balancing act between helping crony capitalists of the sort that are funding her campaign and the Sanders-Warren wing of the party, who are openly socialist. The Wikileaks stories about her saying one thing on Wall Street and another in union halls or black churches exemplify her problems. If even the Labor Department says we have north of 8% unemployment and falling tax revenues, rest assured that her left wing will demand a return to FDR level "soak the rich" taxes, more regulation on the financial services industry, and massive new social programs. Her Wall Street supporters would disapprove. Meanwhile, the GOP-e and establishment conservatives of the National Review stripe may fail in re-establishing themselves as the "loyal opposition". The horses are out of the barn, and Ryan, McConnell, Romney, etc., cannot corral them.

Recessions are cyclical, and we are due for one. If I were a Democrat, I would secretly root for Trump, and let him and the GOP take the blame. Then in 2018 and 2020, they can sweep into the White House, take the Senate and House, along with governorships and state legislatures.
