The Republican Party has been using Conservatives since the post-Hoover Era. No Republican Administration has actually shrunk the government since Harding/Coolidge. Since Eisenhower, we’ve heard nothing but rhetoric about a commitment to shrinking government/cutting Democrat programs, and it NEVER happens. Not even Reagan could accomplish it. They lie to our faces every election, and this government continues to get larger, debt ever more obscene, and the GOP as content as ever to “manage” the Democrat/Socialist/Communist/Statist/Fascist, et al, agenda.
If the GOP really wanted to cut government, it would have long ago, but it’s all a thoroughgoing joke on the voters. The Dems favor big government, the GOP opposes it but secretly supports it, and we all think THIS TIME the latter will cut it. Zero has had 6 years of a GOP House, and the Weeping Boner and Lyin’ Ryan have let him balloon the debt to $20 trillion with unfunded liabilities 10 times that, if not more. What a bunch of suckers we are to buy their bull$hit, like Charlie Brown with Lucy’s football. Good Ole Charlie should’ve taken a running punt to Lucy’s ass and sent it into orbit and forgotten about the damn football, which was nothing but a prop, as “Conservatism” is to the GOP.
No wonder Trump scares them all to death, both parties think he might end the gravy train for them and all their power along with it. The mass hysteria that this insanity will end is palpable, and why the political class/media/pop culture/education establishment/big business and all the other collaborators must destroy Trump at all costs.
Sad to say, the most important special interest group you didn't name is the stupid voters. Whatever secret ambitions or fears cause them to do it, they keep electing whoever most convincingly promises to keep the gravy train on schedule.
True, though sometimes there aren’t viable options, and that’s by design. Too many figure their incumbent is A-OK and the others are lousy, but I guarantee you that they are not A-OK and neither is their opposition party challenger a good deal of the time. Even if you do get a “good one”, it doesn’t take long before they’re assimilated into the hive. My rule of thumb is that 6 years is all it takes for the good ones to become a part of the problem, sometimes less.
