What is the state law regarding recording someone without their knowledge
where this happened? Just curious.

Not sure, if there is anything applicable. Recording one’s telephone conversations, without notice that you are doing so, is probably illegal most places; but having a recorder on you in a conversation is a different matter.

The big general rule is being "part of the conversation"....

I can record a conversation between you and me....but a 3rd party cannot record our conversation without permission. But every state is different.

Whatever the jurisdiction (industry; city; county; state, etc.) .. it could be different for each state.
