A leading #NeverTrump radio host is pulling the plug on his Wisconsin show, citing age and retirement plans to explain his departure from the airwaves by end of the year. “This morning, I announced that I am stepping down from my daily radio show on WTMJ at the end of this year,” Charlie Sykes said on his website.
I know that lot of people will assume that my decision has something to do with this current campaign and the rise of Trumpism. But, the reality (as my friends and family know) is that I made this decision a long time ago. Twenty-three years is a long time to do a radio show and most hosts don’t get to go out on their own terms. So I’m lucky to have had that chance.
But he’s not quitting politics, or his opposition to Donald Trump.
It would also be fair to say that this campaign has made the decision easier. The conservative movement has been badly damaged; obviously the conservative media is broken as well. So this is a good time for step back, sit down for a while, and ask “What the hell just happened here?” … I plan to spend much of the next year working on a book about the crackup of the conservative movement. My working title is “How the Right Lost It's Mind"

For someone who is allegedly so conservative, he is doing everything he can to denigrate Trump and thus elect Hillary.
I wonder about his contract. I wonder why his bosses at Salem let him stay on the air.
Well you and I and many others who stop listening, may hit them in the ratings.
His “conservatism” is in the context of targeted tax cuts and foreign policy interventions that Trump just discredited. Sykes was hemorrhaging listeners that’s why he’s quitting “to spend more time with the family.”

Easy, sit down, here's what happened. After years of electing conservatives into power, including an entire congressional majority, with nothing to show for it, conservatives decided to elect someone who may not be as purely conservative, but wanted to get something done.

Because he attacks Trump. Salem Communications is anti Trump. It owns RedState, former home of never trumper Erickson, and HotAir, also home of never trumpers.

Go retiring in Mexico
I want Constitutional conservatives to stay engaged during the Trump era. It’s crucial to the survival of America. Those who figure out how to navigate the waters with an explanatory style instead of a bombastic, hateful, #NeverTrumper style will be sidelined into irrelevancy. Those who are able to observe and nudge Trump and many of his followers toward the conservative position in a winsome way serve a vital role and I cheer their success.
Beck’s inanities are good for comic relief. And watching his “media empire” implode is kinda fun too.
