North Carolinas controversial law overturning local government protections for gays and lesbians could cost it some business with California state agencies.
Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday signed a bill that prohibits state agencies from compelling their employees to travel to states with laws that allow discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.
The effect is to ban state-funded travel to North Carolina and other states that may adopt policies like its HB2, the law that struck down local measures protecting gays and lesbians from workplace discrimination and prohibited cities from passing new anti-discriminatory policies.

Promise?
People who are against this bill think that they're punishing us by not coming here, but the general consensus in NC is, "Fine, we didn't want you here anyway."
I think that's the biggest reason why NC pols have shown a hint of spine on the matter. For a change.
How queer.
Window dressing.....all of it. Someone can’t be compelled to go....they can simply tell their boss they aren’t going because they so strenuously object to the NC bathroom law. In all of California’s extensive government, it might apply to 5 people.
North Carolina should just pass a law that says no state funded travel to any state, locality, business or professional events that discriminate against the great state of North Carolina.
Zell Miller did that in the 1990’s in Georgia (moves against the state flag) and the boycotts quickly faded. The professional organizations, tourist industry and academics (conventions) in the other states helped killed the boycott. Today we just cave in to pressure,Miller was the last great Democrat in Georgia.
California state buildings have gender specific restrooms. California state universities have gender specific sports teams and locker facilities. They also have gender specific degree programs such as women’s studies.
Until they end women specific sports and make women and men and transgenders all compete on the same level, then this is hypocrisy of the first order.
California state employees should not be allowed to travel to California until these archaic laws are overturned!!
ya think?
Typical liberal form over substance.
This is called economic sanctions. Jerry Brown has in fact declared war on North Carolina. This is another way Democrats continue to divide the United States through hatred and bigotry.
“As a California resident I am sorry to inform you folks in North Carolina that you will not be visited by our mostly overpaid, under worked, milk cow state employees.”
What reason could a California state employee have for traveling to NC on official business?
And soon there arises in the former United States of America the “Internal Travel Pass”. Citizens will have to show their Travel Passes before passing through border checkpoints as a highway enters a neighboring state.
Airport waits will increase as air travelers will stand in line to show their Internal Travel Passport before boarding a plane.
Within states, Zip Code restrictions will be introduced, allowing PROGRESSIVE cities to prevent inudations of undesireables from cluttering up their streets.
Internal Travel Passports will be color-coded to identify the holder as to political affiliation, religion, and LGBT status.
So how are California bathrooms laws in public and private businesses different?
The last time I checked there were men and women’s rooms only.
United State Selective Service
FOR MALE TO FEMALE (MTF) INDIVIDUALS
People who were assigned male at birth are required to register with the Selective Service within thirty days of their eighteenth birthday. This includes those who may have transitioned before or since then. The Selective Service uses Social Security and other databases to determine who they believe was assigned male at birth. As of now, it is unclear whether transgender people are eligible for military service, but you are required to register nonetheless, and this is necessary to gain access to certain government benefits.
California State employees must boycott the United States as it discriminates against transgendered people
::shrug::
Who needs ‘em anyway?
We pee in the right pot aroun heah....
Had to correct the tolerant and open minded first paragraph.
Good. But why would a state employee be in NC on State business except sporting events? Liberals are such drama queens.
Hey, if their kalifornia way of doing things is so great, why did they feel compelled to leave?
That was my thought. How much travel to NC do California state employees actually conduct?
I assume there is some- training courses, prisoner transfers, symposiums, etc... But it can’t be significant.
Not allowing men into womens’ restrooms is protecting gays (sic) and lesbians from workplace discrimination....HAHAHAHAH
This is no different than setting up border checkpoints to control interstate commerce. It interferes with federal policy for freedom of movement and commerce. There is no reason any state thus targeted could not issue a reciprocal cut off of commerce and travel to CA.
