Police plead for help IDing gunman after 5 killed at Washington mall

Police pleaded with the public for help identifying a gunman who fled after killing four women and a man at a Washington state mall Friday night.

As authorities determine a motive, they said Saturday that there was no immediate evidence the attack was terror-related.

The suspect, dressed in a black T-shirt and black shorts, was seen on surveillance footage at the Cascade Mall in Burlington, about 65 miles north of Seattle, where he opened fire inside a Macy's department store.

Authorities don't know his whereabouts or identity, but believe he is a Hispanic man in his 20s or 30s.

"Hopefully people who know and recognize this individual will help us," Mt. Vernon Lt. Chris Cammock said at a Saturday morning news conference.

I live near Burlington WA and drive there often. It's a small agricultural town and most of the farm workers in the surrounding area are Hispanic. In looking at the photos I'm pretty sure that's what he is.

Absolutely correct. The man definitely appeared to be Middle Eastern and definitely not of Mesoamerica origins. However calling a terrorist murderer “Hispanic” is consistent with the Obama politically correct narrative. There must be no mention of the word “Islamic” or even “terrorist”.

As a former resident for 28 years I am stunned by the apparent lack of concern for a shooter at large who walked into a dept store and shot/killed 5 people.

Remember how Boston handled a shooter at large?

there seemed to be a lack of urgency on the part of the police when it came to searching for the perpetrator. That led us to speculate that they had a good idea what the motive was, and that they didn't consider the guy an ongoing threat.

Compared to how Boston handled a shooter at large, the response in Wa is a complete joke.

Keep in mind that the bombing attack in Boston took place at the Boston Marathon -- one of the most heavily attended events anywhere in the U.S. in any given year.

As I watch how the WA police deal with this situation, it seems more and more like they have good reason to believe that the perp isn't a threat anymore, and that this wasn't a random attack.

That was my first impression too. To me he looks like a young Sirhan Sirhan.

However ... the pictures aren't great, from one angle he looks more Middle Eastern than from another. It's possible he will, in fact, turn out to be "Hispanic" ... whatever that means.

Hypothetical - I wonder how the media would describe a perpetrator if, for example, he turned out to be from the Philippines, a country of various ethnicities and religions, including Christianity and Islam. Some have Spanish-sounding names. Would the media assume that a perpetrator with a "Hispanic"-sounding last name must therefore be of "Christian" (e.g. Catholic) background?

They probably won't do that until they have the perp secured, confirmed dead, or at a known location.

On the scanners last night they had search teams going through the neighborhood across the road where the guy was seen fleeing after the attack. "Searching" may not even be the right term because they were actually responding to 911 calls from people who reported sounds the yard, garage or shed doors opened, etc. They were very nonchalant about it, and didn't even seem to warn people in the neighborhood to lock their doors and shelter in place.

What are the witnesses saying about the shooting?

Was this in response to Obama emailing Clinton through backchannels using a made up name while discussing national security?
