Cruz Poised to Endorse Trump

Donald Trump may be on the cusp of bagging an endorsement from one of the most prominent NeverTrump holdouts, former primary rival Ted Cruz.

Sources close to the Trump campaign have confirmed Cruz is close to endorsing his former — and sometimes bitter — GOP rival. Talks between Cruz staff and the Trump camp have been regular in recent weeks, and have grown more serious as Trump has closed the gap with Hillary Clinton in key battleground states.

Trump should tell Cruz that he’d be ashamed to be associated with an unethical lying bastard, and Cruz should go piss up a rope.

“This endorsement should be welcomed. Trump’s team seems to acknowledge that fact. Needed? Maybe not. Welcomed? Absolutely helps. Helps Cruz? Probably.”

Agree and I hope we see them shake hands. Any of us over the age 35 should be able to look back on our lives and acknowledge that we said and did things we wish we could take back. A good apology and burying the hatchet can heal a lot of wounds.

Too little, too late. Lyn’ Ted is history and not actions now, short of apologizing and resigning from Senate would be acceptable. Even then, good riddance to him. As I’ve said before, I will donate to his opponent, first the Republican, then the Democrat, if need be, to see he does not win re-election. It is too bad the RNC is too gutless to kick him, Jeb, and the others out of the party. The Senate should remove him from his committee assignments. The guys a loser and lost every issue in the senate he’s touched anyway.

Cruz waited too long. It helps confirm that the NeverTrumpers are the losing team. Trump will need point men in the Senate, and Sessions, Cruz and Lee are positioned well to be that.

It's not Cruz himself that is the big deal here. It's one more former competitor whose endorsement assures his supporters that it's OK to vote for Donald Trump.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I think the cause of this move is at least as important as its effect. I honestly believe Cruz withheld his support for Trump because he thought Clinton would win and wanted to hedge his bets (i.e., his political future with Clinton in the White House would be different than if Trump is in the White House). If this is the case, then Cruz's endorsement is based on his expectation that Trump is actually going to win.

He’s only doing it because the RNC will not let him run again if he doesn’t.

Now that the polls have swung in Trump's favor and Hillary is (literally) collapsing he "may" fulfill his signed pledge to support the party's nominee.

Who cares?

There was a brief window of time early this year when I thought a Trump-Cruz ticket would be a formidable one. That disappeared once Cruz began losing and going off the rails.

As I posted yesterday...

It's too late, Ted. You can never get back the lost months of "united Republican" momentum that you selfishly squandered in your fit of pique.

All you'll do now with an endorsement is give the MSM a reason to rehash all the primary squabbles instead of talking about Clinton's frailty going into the debates.

The best thing you can do now is just to stay away and let things play out as they are on the table you helped set.

That said, if Cruz waits until after the first debate so as not to steal the spotlight, and then says that the debate performance convinced him that Trump is the best candidate to be President, he could pull it off.

But...

It must be about Trump and not himself.

Well, there has been a rapprochement. Kasich, Bill Kristol, John Podhoretz, and Glenn Beck can go munch soggy Cheetos.

Too little, too late.

Cruz has shown his true colors. That can’t be undone.

On the one hand Cruz deserves a lot of criticism for taking things in the GOP race personally, but then you turn around and advise Trump to do something like THAT?

If Trump wins he knows he has to deal with Ted Cruz in the U.S. Senate for at least the next two years. If my theory is correct and Trump has no interest in running for a second term, that's half of Trump's term in office.

If you have noted the attendance at rallies and support Trump has here in NC, you would know he does NOT need Cruz. Cruz did not carry southern Evangelicals. That said every vote counts and I appreciate the fact that Cruz is working to save the Internet from Obama/McConnell treason.

With all those illegals TX could be ripe for voting shenanigans. Anything to give Trump more of a buffer there is good.

So TCruz won’t be writing in the Egg McMuffin candidate who is an official write-in choice in TX.
