Ted Cruz supporters were alarmed Wednesday at suggestions that he was on the verge of endorsing Donald Trump.
They worry that the Texas senator could squander his brand as a fighter and goodwill earned among many through his stubborn refusal to back his party's nominee if he caves with nothing to show for it.
Cruz has held out on the grounds that Trump is insufficiently conservative, and because Trump attacked his wife and father down the stretch of their heated battle for the Republican nomination.
The senator even took the extraordinary step of declining to endorse Trump during a televised, prime time speech delivered from the stage of the New York businessman's own nominating convention.

Cruz’s word is worthless. The first thing an officer in the military learns is-”Your word is your BOND.”
Most rational people decided awhile ago that Trump was the only reasonable option.
The longer he waits, the sorrier he looks.
How about power from God, and you missing out totally on it and going where the devil goes?
Maybe Cruz should have thought about Hidey Heidi and Dad before be let his PAC fly with the old, old photo of Melania Trump.
TRUMP warned he wouldn’t hit first, but if hit, he would hit back twice as hard. Well, he was hit first. Recall, Cruz already made those indiscreet remarks against Trump in the private NYC fundraiser. Next, Cruz failed to renounce the pac ad against Melania.
Result? TRUMP hit Heidi, on her appearance, and Cuban dad on the Oswald photo. That photo was never reported as photoshopped, or denied. It was Rafael.
Cruz asked for trouble and got it. He’s been in a fetal position with a permanent pout ever since.
Precisely.
I don't even want Ted's endorsement, now that it's of little value. The time to endorse was back when it really would have shown him to be a statesman and a team player.
Had Ted endorsed in May, that would have gone a long way to healing the rift that still existed, and would have helped add coal to Trump's engine.
At this late date? Who could possibly believe he's really sincere?
His supporters need an explanation for his endorsement? How about Hillary Clinton!
I don’t trust Cruz anymore than I trust Hillary but I would have voted for him if he had been the gop candidate, to stop Hillary.
Where do these nevertrumpers who call themselves conservative congregate online these days, I got a few things I want to tell them?
I think Abbot would be a good choice.
Do you mean that for me, specifically?
Being that I was a strong Cruzer until the convention, I’d say a larger number of folks are alarmed that he hasn’t endorsed.
Cruz is not a natural born citizen.
He is not eligible to be President.
If DJT were up greatly, then I’d agree with you. He isn’t. He’s probably more or less statistically tied. So if we want to win, and I assume we do, then we end up looking for votes on the margins. And everyone has a vote. Even followers of TT.
It sucks, but them’s is the breaks. In the end, the other alternative is ceding votes to hitlery. I’ll swallow a whole lot of pride to avoid that.
So did Kasich and Jeb.
I agree. I was a big Cruz fan and financial supporter, but I recognized that it’s either Trump or Hillary and any true American has no choice but to support Trump. Come on Ted, it’s never too late to do the right thing. And it just might save your senate seat.
Unfortunately cruzbots think Clinton is the better choice
Ted is out for Ted. This endorsement kurfuffle is probably a hand grenade into the TRUMP camp, to divide and nip at the flank of the TRUMP movement.
Cruz is still a UniParty globalist on paper, while verbally tickling the ears of the galactically stupid rubes on the religious Right.
In the name of the Bible, the flag and the Constitution, don’t cha know.
I simply don’t believe there enough butthurt Cruz loyalists to make one iota of difference in this race.
Cruz is not the only one trying to block ICANN. He is actually late to the party just like with TPP. He releases press info to make himself look good
Teddy is pathetic
