A new study finds Venezuela on the brink of famine, with an alarming fifteen percent of citizens saying they can only feed themselves with food waste discarded by commercial establishments, while nearly half say they have had to take time off work to search for food. The study conducted by More Consulting and published in the Spanish-language Diario de las Américas reflects a reality that has become the signature of President Nicolás Maduros tenure: a food and medicine shortage that forces most in the nation to wait in supermarket lines that can last up to eight hours. On many occasions, after the wait, they find that there is nothing left to buy.

Every American professor should be forced to spend a year in Venezuela.
They should overthrow the government while they still have the strength. And I’ve seen pictures of them. Not a skinny one in the bunch.
Why don’t these folks just re-locate to the USA.....NOT
90% of us on the news and through politicians hear garbage and we are not making it.
Every American professor Democrat should be forced to spend a year in Venezuela. Fixed it.
and in USA more than 15% of the people eat McD’s
We have that in America, too.
“Every American professor should be forced to spend a year in Venezuela.”
In their utopian fantasy, they’re one of the remaining well-fed elite, self-righteously condemning capitalist phantoms for their nation’s problems.
Yeah. MacDonalds.
“Every American professor should be forced to spend a year in Venezuela.”
And a year on a farm, to know where food ACTUALLY comes from.
Wait, I thought socialism was supposed to bring equality. Why aren’t they all eating garbage? It’s not fair. The 85% are taking advantage of the 15%. They need more socialism! They shouldn’t stop until everyone shares the garbage equally.
I don’t think Obama’s invited them for two reasons: 1) they aren’t going to vote for socialism now. And 2) he’s too busy getting Islamic bomb builders to immigrate.
Sounds live a very eco-friendly way to live. I’m sure all the left wants us to live like this.
Reminds me, in a round-about way, of someone I know who lived in Viet Nam years ago.
There was some gov official that would come around checking trash to make sure the folks weren’t exceeding their food quotas.
Too many chicken bones in the trash meant you were cheating. I don’t know what the penalty was.
I also don’t know if they still do that today, though it is still a commie country.
socialism = universal price and wage controls + incompetent central planning = economic chaos + excessive demand and assault on supply = shortages
Venezuelan police have arrested at least 9,400 people this year for allegedly breaking laws against hoarding. Coming soon to a prepper's pantry near you.
Anyone found attempting to wait overnight in front of a supermarket is arrested. There go the Black Friday Sales rush.
There is no reason they can't have a garden even if it's in an apartment window. If they're that hungry, every little bit helps.
We should dispatch a squadron of B-52’s and drop a million MRE’s with little parachutes attached to them. Just make sure they have the American flag stamped on them. Maybe include a message to get rid of Maduro. On the following morning President Trump can make a statement to the world with ALL Latin baseball stars from Venezuela. Those that don’t want to play ball can be called out.
Obama, Hillary, and Bernie all hope to bring America to that level of equality - where everyone gets to scavenge for garbage.
That is the image I deal with in my hometown where “children are going to bed hungry... The poverty rate is shameful...” Yet when you go to Walmart on the first of the month the place is packed with chunky, filthy, stench carrying, sorry adults and children who haven’t missed any meals in a long time.
