WASHINGTON In a unanimous vote Saturday, the Alexandria City Council has decided to change the name of Jefferson Davis Highway, a roadway named for Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy.
I could honestly say, personally, raise my taxes to pay for it, to satisfy my parents, my grandparents, Councilman Willie F. Bailey Sr. said.
The council discussed the possibility of changing the name to Patrick Henry but tabled the discussion for later. An advisory committee did not recommend name changes for all the streets in Alexandria named after Confederate soldiers but has now opened the door for neighbors who want a street change to petition for one.

The cultural cleansing continues.
Perhaps name it after Margaret Sanger? Why do half measures? Go full retard.
They should take him up on that and send him a bill. Then let the taxpayers know that he is a liar when he reneges on his promise.
This is the kind of irrelevant crap is what Democrat politicians sit around doing.
Yep, I’m behind enemy lines.
“Or maybe they could name it after a famous democrat.”
Robert Byrd. Good friend of Bill and Hill.
The typical suspects. All blacks and liberal Jews.
Call me surprised /s
“The cultural cleansing continues.”
When they get serious, tear down Davis’ continuing legacies - Smithsonian Institution and the expanded Capitol.
REDS to the core.
Are there no lessons to be learned? Did Mr. Davis have no redeeming qualities whatsoever? No consideration for someone asking "who was this Mr. Davis that he got a road named after him?" and that person going and learning something?
Or is that what they are afraid of - people learning on their own, not what is being force-fed to them?
Thankfully, down in Oklahoma, we still have the Stand Watie Memorial Highway honoring the last Confederate Brigadier General to surrender several months after Lee. Watie was a full blood Cherokee, commanding Cherokees, Choctaws, Seminoles, Osages, and other Confederate troops. The Indian tribes always felt they could get better treatment from the Confederacy.
Cherokees in Oklahoma are still proud of their General! Don’t be surprised to see the Battle Flag flying here.

They’ll name it ‘HIGHWAY to Hell’ or the B.H. Obama Highway to Hell...
What’s next? Eliminating the entire civil war from history lessons? These politicians are getting paid for this???
I’m surprised the Jeff Davis name has lasted this long. Will be interesting to hear their recommendations for renaming.
The Soviet Union changed the names of cities while rewriting history
Deja vu
There’s already a Sanger Avenue in the city. No idea what it’s named after, though.
Damn Yankees.
How about Nikolai Yezhov Highway?
