As Native Americans protesters face arrest in North Dakota for blocking the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, TheAntiMedia's Carey Wedler reports a gasoline pipeline spill is currently unfolding in the South. The leak has prompted Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley, Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam, and Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal to declare states of emergency.

The Colonial Pipeline, which runs from Houston to New York, began leaking on September 9, spilling 250,000 gallons of gasoline, or 6,000 barrels. The pipeline was built in 1962, and the current leak in Helena, Alabama, is the largest one Colonial Pipeline has experienced in 20 years, Reuters noted.

AL.com reported that according to the Colonial Pipeline company’s spokesperson, Bill Berry, the pipeline could still be leaking:

Huntsville AL . . . headed to Costco yesterday . . . husband had been driving my Expedition recently and I was exactly 50 miles to EMPTY. Low fuel. About 20-25 miles to Costco. Thought no biggie.

Got there 6+ cars in line at each pump. Friday afternoon so thought well I’ll shop and get gas when done. Still 6+ cars in each lane. Now 25~ miles to EMPTY.

Got gas . . .50.00+ dollars worth forget how many gallons at 1.84 or 1.86 a gallon.

Get home and read about this pipeline and shortages on Twitter. ooops

Son home for the weekend from Auburn. Filled up when he left Auburn. 180 miles to EMPTY. Houston We Have a Problem. About 225 miles to Auburn. So topped off his tank with the filled last week or so 5 gallon gas container for the mower. Whew. Now 350~ miles to empty. He’ll head out after the Titans game tomorrow.

Luckily Husband can work from home whenever he feels like it so no biggie . . . use to when I had my 2 Expeditions, the Escape, the old blue truck . . . I could fill them all and have an easy 1500 miles to weather any shortages due to hurricanes on the Gulf Coast in LA or TX . . . or tornadoes or whatever. Now, not so much with just 1 Expedition and his new Subaru and the old blue truck.

At least when son gets back to Auburn he can park his car and ride Tiger Buses until the shortage passes.

Now everywhere that I know of 10-15 miles around me, I’m 4 miles from the TN state line . . . have plastic bags on the gas pump handles.

We are just north of Nashville.
All stations ran out last night. Kept going further out of town to find gas. Took about 8 miles out and lines were crazy long.
Seems TN is hit worse??

I think it had been going on all yesterday in Fayettville & Park City TN . . . wasn’t until later afternoon early evening before it hit Madison County AL. So near here, both hit, but TN before AL.

Yep. Especially the people near empty or less than 1/2 a tank that have to drive 50~ miles daily to/from work.

I finally heard it on Fox News mid-day today. Saw one local story on Twitter yesterday and once or twice today but not from other two local stations.

Up until the satellite era replaced it, every day a Cessna would run the pipeline sniffing for trouble.

"Is it likely she won't be able to get any gas past Mississippi? Anybody up that way know how bad it is? "

See my post #41...that's all I know.

Sounds like most of the panic buying, where that has occurred, has been in the larger urban areas and suburbs. Your wife might end up spending a fair amount of time sitting in line, once she finds open pumps. I doubt any location will be completely out, but it might take some effort to find it.

pipeline runs through the edge of our city, in Mississippi. With the valve being shut off, you would think the gas prices here, southwest of the break would be lower as they can’t ship any farther east.
More than one pipeline runs thru here. Hope they have beefed up security....
Goes all the way to New York City!

Try 30 cents here overnight-extreme NE Georgia and have read central TN had a 50 cent overnight increase. Every station around here and western NC was dry this afternoon...
