LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) - If Jimmy Fallon had any credibility left as a thinking comedian with a point-of-view, he lost the last shred of it Thursday night. Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump appeared on "The Tonight Show" for a few minutes to talk up his campaign, in the midst of one of the mendacious and evasive 24-hour periods of his political career to date.
Yesterday, Trump ended a slimy two-day news cycle by finally admitting that President Barack Obama was born in the United States -- but in the process, re-stoked the controversy, waffled on the topic, and manipulated media coverage to focus on the opening of his new hotel (just hours after he gloated that that same press pool was stranded on the tarmac and therefore couldn't come to his rally).
During this particularly maddening news cycle, Trump stopped by "The Tonight Show" to tape last night's episode. And Fallon -- either unaware or indifferent to the racist overtones of Trump's birtherism or the "reveal" of his medical records on "Dr. Oz" -- chose to fawn all over the candidate. In the episode's metaphorical money shot, Fallon asked Trump if he could muss his orange coiffure. In an acquiescence that felt rehearsed, Trump let him have at it. Trump's combover deflated in long, cotton-candy-like wisps. As Fallon stood to bid him farewell, the candidate nervously patted it back into place.

From the comments section (and not one liberal was able to respond):
Sonia - I appreciate your well-written article, but it’s really unfortunate that your political views lead to completely condescending viewpoints on people who support Donald Trump. The problem with liberals is that if a conservative or Donald Trump has a different point of view on illegal immigration, abortion, refugee resettlement or any other topic, we’re immediately branded as uncaring, a racist, etc. It’s intellectually deficient on the left’s and your part. The media is so far left that it’s the single biggest threat to our democracy. I’ve seen plenty of puff pieces for the media with Obama and Clinton over the years. Is it hard to believe that, perhaps, Jimmy Fallon may like or support Donald Trump? I guess in Hollywood if you have a different opinion from the liberals, you’re not welcome. That doesn’t sound very “inclusive” to me...
Trump’s biggest problem is that he has good ideas, but doesn’t always clearly articulate them and provide the necessary detail. Yet, I’m a supporter still because Hillary is not truthful and her ideas will cripple our country economically - BTW - we can’t deliver the liberals’ beloved government programs with long term GDP growth rates of 1% - that’s the left’s American economy...
The major hypocrisy of the left is that you and they hold yourselves out as being “open-minded”, “caring”, “inclusive”, etc. That only holds true if one agrees with your ideas. As soon as we don’t (for example my clear, reasonable and coherent explanation of a conservative’s view on illegal immigration below), we’re called names. Also, I don’t see Republicans going to Democrat political events and creating riots or blocking access, etc. It’s only Democrats doing so at Republican events. It’s un-American and illegal, but the government is afraid or unwilling to stop it.
Just because Donald Trump or I don’t want illegal immigration (which it is - undocumented immigrants is a farce - as James Woods quipped, it’s analogous to a heroine dealer being called an undocumented pharmacist... both are illegal and not good for the country) doesn’t mean he or I hate Hispanics, etc. Frankly, if the left understood simple economics, those candidates would support ending illegal immigration.
Eliminating the inflow of illegal immigrants, who otherwise take entry level jobs at lower than normal hourly rates, often under the table, significantly depresses wages for poor blacks, Hispanics, and whites, etc. We wouldn’t need to artificially raise the minimum wage because businesses would have to raise their pay rates when they didn’t have these willing, but illegal workers. I see it in my own town in PA. Another critical consideration is that the billions spent on welfare, medicaid, and other government subsidies (schooling costs), etc. for illegal immigrants would otherwise go to reducing the deficit (the deficit harms all Americans) or paying for additional valuable services for poor blacks and whites, legal resident Hispanics. Also, I’m not suggesting we deport those who are here. That’s not feasible, but it doesn’t make sense to reward someone who broke the law with voting rights. A middle ground of legal residence without voting rights can likely be had with Trump and ending illegal immigration will provide significant wage rate increases at the lower end and will provide good jobs for those low skill workers not working today.
Fallon never had any credibility.
Which candidate still flings N-bombs?
Can you believe it? The same people that purposefully lie day after day complain when someone bothers to just have fun?
Let’s see...Fallon had both candidates on his show and kept the interviews light hearted and fun because that is what he does. His audience isn’t expecting hard hitting questions. For right now, Kudos to Fallon.
A comedian has credibility?
It’s worth a visit to the comments section, the authorette is getting roasted to a crisp.
She acts like Jimmy Fallon is supposed to weigh the events hurting Trump. What a jerk.
They’re completely unhinged.
“becomes president, that image of Fallon ruffling Trump’s hair will be the moment when the tide turned. The gesture was so affectionate and grandfatherly that Fallon provided Trump with a seal of mainstream approval that he does not”
Hahaha
The only media portrayals of Trump are supposed to put him in a bad light. Any portrayal that does otherwise is supposed to end up in the dustbin.
Yeah, I guess Hillary’s deplorables comment and her getting tossed into the van like a sack of flour have nothing to do with it all. Damn you, Fallon!
Glad to hear it! And I hope he doesn’t respond publicly and keeps doing what he’s doing. I love watching his clips on YouTube when I want some lighthearted fun in this depressing world.
The same media people who are so outraged over this had no problem with Hillary's pickle jar stunt on Jimmy Kimmel's show.
Fallon, as a comedian and entertainment host, dependent upon whatever flavor of idiot is popular, not so much.
Heck, Fallon, even getting the gig in today's environment, even less so.
Yeah, I know, comedians are just supposed to entertain.
They act like everyone in television is supposed to be part of the Ministry of Propaganda, maybe they are.
This is why most media websites are eliminating their comments sections. Deplorable keep leaving comments.
