Gary Johnson, Jill Stein will not be on debate stage

Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson and the Green Party’s Jill Stein will not be on the presidential debate stage for the first contest sponsored by the Commission on President Debates. Johnson and Stein both fell short of the 15 percent polling threshold required to participate, the commission said in a statement, adding that Trump and Clinton will face off on September 26 and their running mates, Tim Kaine and Mike Pence, will debate on October 4. Johnson in particular was pushing hard for inclusion in the debates, as he’d polled in the double digits across several national surveys, and previously said he would only have a chance to win if he can debate Trump and Clinton.

In a statement, Gov. Johnson lamented his exclusion from the debate stages, writing: “I would say I am surprised that the CPD has chosen to exclude me from the first debate, but I’m not. After all, the Commission is a private organization created 30 years ago by the Republican and Democratic parties for the clear purpose of taking control of the only nationally-televised presidential debates voters will see. At the time of its creation, the leaders of those two parties made no effort to hide the fact that they didn’t want any third party intrusions into their shows.”

Proof that both are taking votes from Hillary much more than Trump; if they were a threat to Trump, the rules would be bent to bring them in.

Clearly. Aren’t there rules about what percentage you are getting in the polls? Johnson should not be surprised, or does he think that the rules don’t apply to him? Like we need another one of those.

I think this is good. They would just be a distraction. This election is indeed between Trump or Clinton.

Any conservative not actually casting a vote for Trump (voting third party or not voting) IS helping Hillary become the next president of the US.

Johnson, on the ballot in all 50 states and Washington DC belongs, Stein, on the ballot in 36 states, does not. Having a commission created by Republican and Democrats decide what the criteria is for being part of said debate solidifies the two party system.

It will be a sit down event if she makes it there. She will have the mist techie earpiece the CIA uses. Trump’s folks should be already pursuing a signal jammer.

The Commission on Presidential Debates sets forth the following requirements:

1. Be eligible to be President
2. Be on the ballot in enough states to be able to obtain the needed 270 electoral votes to win
3. Be polling 15% of higher in an average of five national network polls

Johnson and Stein both met the first two, failed at the last one. It's not a new requirement added this year, it's been 15% for a while. Johnson and Stein knew what was required of them to get in.

Yes, good. They would only be a side show and distract from the main event.

I'm still on the emailing list for the Libertarian Party; and a few minutes ago I got an email from their Executive Director Wes Benedict. It begins as follows (emphasis mine):

Today, the New York Times said that the Democratic nominee and the associated Democratic PACs are "alarmed by the drift of young voters toward the third-party candidates."

The NYT quotes a strategist for one of the Democratic PACs as saying, “We’ll be launching a multimillion-dollar digital campaign that talks about what’s at stake and how a vote for a third-party candidate is a vote for Donald Trump...”

Friend, the Democrats are scared. And rightfully so.

As [2]Bloomberg puts it, "Hillary Clinton has a millennial voter problem..."

More reinforcement for the concept that, in this election season, it's the Democrats who are worried about the Libertarian Party being a spoiler—due to the leftward drift of the latter.

(This email does not yet seem to be posted on the internet anywhere. If it shows up on the LP website, I'll post a thread.)
